Hi K., You can put the baby in the front seat, but the baby must be facing the back. In otherwords, the baby's car seat can't be facing the same way you are facing. His/her back must be facing as if they were looking at whatever was in the back seat.

if you dont have a back seat to the truck you are able to put a child in the fron seat ad long as there is a switch to deactivate the airbag, my brother had a similiar issue and he had asked a cop who told him as long as the child is in a carseat and you are able to deactivate the airbag there isnt a problem with it then.

When our son was smaller the only ride we had was a pickup truck so he sat between us. The cops pulled us over one day (seat belt....my bf forgot to strap it, but we didn't get a ticket thank god)and said nothing. I also read somewhere that they can be in straped in the front as long as the airbag in the front can be turned off. However, I personally don't recomend it because the passenger seat in the front is often reffered to as the suicide seat.

I believe the law is that a baby is supposed to be rear facing in the back until 1 year and 20lbs. If you are uncertain about the types of cars and what to do about the car seat call your local police department. They have all that info. According to the website it is suggested that children remain in the back until they are 12. You can also check at dmv.gov.

Hi K., it's P.. By the law you can just have the baby in the front seat in case the baby has a medical condition in which you have to watch him all the time and for that you'll have to get an autorization in the police department near you (I read that in a book somewhere) + you'll have to turn off the front airbag. I hope that helps.

as long as you dont have air bags you can have the baby in the front seat when my son was a baby my husband had an older pick up truck that didnt have air bags and on his days off he would always take our son to run errands and he was never stopped for having the baby in the front seat so it is ok as long as you have no back seat and no air bags

Hi there K.,, I dont know where you are from but here in NY you can put a child in the front as long as there is no passenger side air bag or if you can turn the air bag off.I know some newer vehicles you can turn the passenger side bag off. And as for a pick up truck, do you have a back seat?

I don't believe4 it is against the law, but I do believe that if they are under the weight limit to face forward they need to be rear facing. Your best bet would to call the police department ot maybe AAA might now.
Sorry good luck with your request.

K.,
The reason why you do not put a child in the front seat has more to do with the airbags.. although it is also not the safest place to be. The airbags deploy with such force that they break things sometimes they break rib cages in adults never mind what they do to little children. You should not put your child in the front seat until they are over 12.

That is the specific law regarding child safety in cars. There is nothing there that states where you can/can't have a baby.

I would hugely recommend that you not put any child under 12 or 55" in the front seat if there are air bags, and I would only put a child in the front seat if there was no back seat. Having a heavy box in the back seat is really little excuse for putting your child at significantly higher risk for injury if you are in an accident. You'd do much better to have the box in the front seat.

I don't think it's against the law. However, if any of your vehicles have airbags (unless you can turn them off) I wouldn't do it. They can be deadly to a child in a carseat. See what your car booklet says and where it suggests you put the carseat. I most cases, as a rule of thumb, backseat is best.

I know that a truck with no backseats is an exception to the rule. If the vehicle has no back seats then you are aloud to put the carseat in the front seat you just need to make sure if there is an airbag it is disabled by a dealership because the airbag can seriously harm the child. If you drive a vehicle that has a backseat the carseat has to be placed in the backseat.

My Uncle is a firefighter and he told my mom that she could put a car seat in the front seat of her truck, so I am gathering that means that if its a truck, then its okay, becuase there is no where else to put it.
