We recently moved to Birmingham also. We found Dr. Herndon for ourselves. He is hard to get into, but once you do, he is just a phone call away and will see you immediately. I had to wait 2 months for my first appointment, but now I get in the same day I call. He is associated with UAB and works at a UAB clinic in Inverness. You can find him in the phone book.

We use Birmingham Pediatrics for our Little Teensy. It has several doctors. I love Teensy's. Her name is Dr. Goldsmith. She has small children herself and has such a gentle touch. She is very proactive, meaning if she thinks something is wrong, she will test. At first this scared me, but I have come to appreciate her methods. She has been able to solve many of Teensy's problems where other doctors would try to wait it out. Email me at ____@____.com if you have any questions. Good luck.

Forgot to add, Birmingham Pediatrics is located in St. Vincent hospital. However, if Dr. Goldsmith thinks there is something UAB can do better, she will send you there. She has done this for us.

Greenvale Pediatrics has an office on Data Drive in Hoover. The are affiliated with Children's Hospital. I take my three kids to their Brook Highland Office, but have gone to the Hoover office because they are open on weekends. All of the doctors we have seen at both locations are excellent. The affiliation with Children's Hospital helps smooth referrals.

Welcome to B'ham!!! We moved here four years ago from the Philadelphia area and we love it. If you are interested in meeting other moms, there is a MOPS - Mothers of Preschoolers, chapter that meets the second Thursday of each month at the Inverness Vineyard Church on Valleydale Road. Please consider yourself invited. Our next meeting will be December 14th at 6:30 pm. There is also a playgroup for moms and kids that meets every Friday from 10-Noon at that church. The kids range in age from newborn to 7years old. There are several 4 year olds. as well. Let me know if you would like more info about either or both.

Sincerely,
D. H-M

My vote goes in for Greenvale Pediatrics. They are the most wonderful place! They have three offices that I know of, two in Hoover. I went there when I was little and when I turned 19, they literally had to kick me out. But I take my daughter there now and she loves them too. The Hoover office on Data Drive has several great doctors and is open on weekends, but we go to the Brook Highland office because that's where my doctor moved to when it opened. Her name is Dr. Jaime Odrezin, but I'm not sure if she's taking any new patients.

I suggest Dr. Anne Byars or her affiliates at Shades Crest Pediatrics. This is near Brookwood Hospital in Homewood, but they use Children's too. Dr. Byars is a mom herself and is a wonderful pediatrician. One nice thing about having a female pediatrician with girls is when it is time for "growing up" issues, etc., a lot of girls feel more comfortable with a woman. For my own physician, I use Dr. Marina Brainin at the Highway 150 UAB clinic. She has a very pleasant personality and is, I think, a good dr. Good luck!
