Do You Talk or Text or Do Other Things While Driving?

So I'm driving home yesterday, cruising through downtown on my way to get my kiddos. Out of nowhere comes this gray honda crv with florida plates with 5 adults. So I honked and gave the driver a gesture ( im sure you can guess what) and at the next stop light the driver gets on her cell phone ( which is illegal here) and the light turns green, we dont move. So I honk again, nothing, I honk again and creep up on her bumper, still nothing so I lay on the horn ( as does the truck behind me) still nothing. The light turns red. At this point I am steaming mad. So she finally gets off the phone, the light turns green again and we actually start to move...at a whoping 12mph, the speed limit is 35. She is now flipping through a brochure and starts messing with the gps. So I honk at her again. She continues to do everything but pay attetion to driving, and in the middle of an intersection she slams on her brakes she wanted to turn and missed the turn since she wasnt paying attention I finally got so frustrated being behind this woman that I went around her not that she noticed she had picked up the phone again. So do you talk, text, program the gps or anything else while driving? I admit I have been guilty of it. I now make sure my phone is on silent in my purse out of reach.
*Edit* I wasnt able to get around her any sooner, as downtown only has one lane in each direction, plus cars parked on the street so I was stuck behind her, and I honestly dont think she even saw my gesture, too busy dialing on her phone, and the brochure was not a map at all, I think it was a take out menu.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

She got the finger for pulling out in front of me, I allmost hit her. She didnt bother to look to her left to see if there was oncoming traffic, than she creeped along so she could get her cellphone.
Ok yes i know I need to relax a bit behind the wheel, which is why I went around her, even though deep down i wanted to follow her and slap her. If she was lost, why couldnt one of the other 4 adult passengers call or use the gps?
I have no issue with hands free driving at all, its the ones like this paticular driver who was using her phone freely that make me nuts.
I find it hard to belive that not one of you would honk at someone who was not paying attention at all, allmost caused an accident with their inattention and than didnt budge an inch at a green stop light with a clear intersection. I guess I must be the only one out there who uses my horn

Maybe they were lost and trying to call 9-1-1 b/c a 'crazy driver' was honking at them and flipping them off?

Seems to me she might have just been doing it to be a Douche bag because you beeped and flipped her the bird?? !!

** Oh I totally would have done the "beep & flip" LOL I'm not afraid to whip that out whenever necessary ;-)

I talk while driving.
And the woman in question was likely behaving this way because you flipped her off and were honking at her. Some people will do this.
I HATE it when my husband flips people off, it does nothing but make people mad and want to piss you off even more.

oh no I'd honk at her if she was just sitting at a green light but I wouldn't flip her the bird, like I said previously it helps nothing , it only causes more anger. And causes the sitting at the light without moving just to piss you off.

Err they sound like they was lost. Give them a break, they may have been scared and your behavior didn't help.

Perhaps flipping though a map?

I am not lost very often but when it happens it is pretty darn scary especially when you are in a new area. Granted I pull over but I am not sure what I would do if I had four other people in the car who may or may not have been barking orders as well.

No I do not. But then I LOVE to drive. I see it as a sport, an art, not just as a manner of getting from one place to another.

So while I understand your frustration that many (maybe even MOST) other 'drivers' are doing everything but DRIVING the car, I also understand that retaliation WILL NOT MAKE THEM DRIVE BETTER.

Well I hope never to make a mistake on the road near you!!! Take a chill pill woman and calm down! As a transport operator with many drivers out there on the roads I have looked into the research surrounding talk and texting. It is dangerous. you cannot safely drive and talk at the same time. It is distracting. It is surprisingly the same for Bluetooth. I was going to equip all of my drivers with Bluetooth until the research showed that it was just as bad as talking on a hand-held. It is also distracting and the difference between talking to someone who is sitting beside you in the car, compared to someone on the end of the phone is that the person sitting beside you is relatively aware of what is going on on the road and will react accordingly, by, for example, shutting up. The person on the end of the phone will not know what is going on, and will cause more of a distraction by not shutting up. It is human instinct to respond when questioned, so we may be tempted to respond to the person on the phone and put our mind elsewhere instead of on the road.

Nope. I pull over if I need to do anything.

I never text while driving! I honestly don't even get how people manage to do it, I mean it takes both my hands and my full attention to send the simplest text :(
I am guilty of talking on my phone sometimes, but since I don't have a blue tooth I've started to use my speakerphone.
I have GPS but will program it before I leave. Occasionally I will look at the map, but usually while I'm waiting at a light. If I need to look something up I will pull over.
