Do You Drink Alcohol During Your Lunch Hour? for Working Moms....

If you go out to lunch, do you ever order an alcoholic beverage?

I can't drink in the middle of the afternoon as it makes me too relaxed, give me a headache and I wouldn't get any work done when I got back to the office, but some girls in my office will order a glass of wine with their lunch.

I'm not looking to get into a debate about it being illegal to be under the influence while at work as I'm no tattle tale =-)

Anyway just wondering how many out there actually drink alcohol during their lunch hour? Thanks for joining in!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'm actually pleasantly surprised that everyone has said No....I love it!! Only because when I do go out to lunch with these girls (which is about once every few months) they tease me saying MOST people drink at least 1 glass with lunch! LOL!!! Sorry not for me!!!

I always order water with lemon at a restaurant AND I go home for lunch 98% of the time anyway =-)

I teach high school students, so while sometimes I WISH I could drink alcohol on my lunch break, I never do and never would (even if I did not work with children).

Nope, never. Drinking in the afternoon would give me a headache. I don't have any moral objections to people having one drink at lunch, but any more than that and I suspect performance might be impacted.

I'm not working now, but at my last job, there were rules about drinking alcohol at lunch. If we did drink, we got fired. No if, ands, or buts. End of discussion. We were expected to be professional on the job, and that meant no drinking.

I was totally ok with that, but I did know of co-workers getting fired.

I eat lunch at my desk so would be interesting. :p When I work from home I will have a beer in the afternoon. I am a number cruncher of sorts, there is little one beer can do to effect my work.

When I worked with the public, heck no. Not because it would have effected my work even then. The last thing you want is to go up to someone working and smell alcohol on their breath. They can't tell you only had one drink. Then again, neither can your boss back at the office.

Still my computer hasn't told on me and it is the only one who knows about the occasional beer. :)

Nope, but i usually work at my desk at lunch. Actually, wine might help :)

I might if it were a Friday celebratory type of lunch thing, but in general, no. I usually don't drink during the day unless it is a special event of some kind like a BBQ or party.

I guess, if I had to say, I owuld probably find it inappropriate if my colleauges did that. But I guess in reality one glass of wine wouldn't really impair anyone. Just feels wrong.

Not all the time and only 1 glass of wine or 1 beer w/a full meal. And I drink plenty of water w/it.

I used to work for an outplacement firm in New Jersey and everytime one of our clients found a job, the whole office would celebrate w/a champagne toast as soon as the announcement was made. We literally had a champagne closet full of boxes of champagne, and the champagne would flow for at least an hour. Depending on how you look at it, it was either a really good day or a really bad day when a client found a job in the morning and 2 more by lunch time. All of our typing was a little off that day.

I loved that job.

My hubby has before. They also will do Mid day parties at the law firm and there will be drinks and what not...then they go back to work. He used to go to lunch, when he worked else where and would get a drink. if he was having a bad day.

I never did. But I worked for an attorney and when we had an office lunch out (after court) I followed his lead. He usually ordered iced tea. So no wine for me. That was the only time my lunch was leisurely enough to actually enjoy a glass of wine. If I am on a timescale, I can't enjoy it, so there's really no point, in my opinion.

I wish.
I'm lucky if I even get a half hour for lunch so absolutely no. I barely have time to eat anything in the break room.

There have been times in the past when I'd have a glass of wine, or a spritzer - but even back then when I had a higher tolerance for alcohol it still made me stupid for the rest of the day. Since I deal with finances and clients I can't afford to be stupid any part of the day. It's been many, many years since I had anything with alocohol during work-lunch. I just odn't think it's appropriate.

I would never drink during my lunch break but only because I am such a lightweight. I can get buzzed on half a wine cooler with a full stomach! If I wasn't so sensative, I probably would have a half glass of wine if we were having a lunch meeting with a client. Depends on where we were eating and how much time we spent at the restaurant.

No way - I love a glass or 2 at home after the kids are finished with dinner and I know my husband and I don't have to go anywhere...that's when I can relax and enjoy it. I don't think there's anything wrong with people that do it if they just have 1 and aren't driving kids around or anything. But for me personally I wouldn't feel normal at work having had a drink at lunch.

My boss says it's perfectly fine and the woman from the labor board that came to our office said it's legally ok in the State of Texas to have 2 cocktails on lunch.

Twice my husband met for lunch at the Tex Mex place down the road. Once I got a margarita and once I had a beer. Both times I came back to work feeling sleepy and bloated and a little conspicuous. Wasn't really worth the extra money and calories!

Um... no. For me, a glass of wine means that the night is over and I can kick my feet up. We have an "early release" twice a year for office parties and then I will have a glass of wine, but out for lunch? Nope- I also eat at my desk most days so that I don't have to stay too late or take work home.

I occasionally did when I was single. It did not effect my work, but looking back, I don't think it was a good idea.

No, its considered in poor taste. I don't work now but before when I did, the only time anyone got an alcoholic drink during lunch was when you took a client out and sometimes he or she would order a beer (since you were the one paying I guess). Drinks are reserved for AFTER work. How funny you ask though because there was a question on here a little while ago saying that she thought the statistic she had read of 51% of working moms having a drink almost every day was too high. I thought it was too low!
