Do You Dress You Pet up for Halloween?

I've always thought this was silly but having a 6 year old girl and a new golden retriever puppy may have changed my mind.
Yesterday Emmy declared that Tom must be dressed like a cat for halloween because it would be so funny to see a barking cat on a leash=) I thought it was clever for a little kid. it's the same overdone concept of a boy dressing like a girl or vice versa but I thought a cute idea for a little kid to come up with for comical value alone=)
So now I have to find/make Tom a cat costume=)
anyone else dress up their pet for the sake of your kids?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

mamabird I know that look. my first dog had the same look when he was a puppy, and we'd put clothes on him to sneak him out of the apartment complet because he'd go silent and slump down. then we'd throw him in a school bag and take it off when we were out of sight=)

I thought about it, but my betta fish would be too slippery to get into a tutu :)

I think dressing up dogs is cute, if they don't mind it.

Cats don't take kindly to things that are beneath them. Now if you sweetened the pot with cat treats at every door he may go all in. :p

We tried it with our dog, but he hates having "clothes" on. So we never tried it again. He had a look on his face like he was embarassed.

I'm not big on clothes for animals but we do make an exception for Halloween. We have a big golden retriever and he comes trick or treating with us. We have dressed him up the last two years. Last year he was a hot dog and the year before he was a horse-with a little jockey on him. He likes the walk and gets alot of attention and treats.

Oh, hell no, or I'd be the 'clawed to ribbons' mummy mom, with bandages all over! Our cat would freak.

No...but kinda? My dogs are little and short-haired so they get cold easily. They wear sweaters in the winter. This year I got them t-shirts. One is bright green and read "Play Dead" with a skull and crossbones. The other is orange with a vampire bat that reads "I Bite."

No, I don't, but I laugh at everybody else's ideas for their dogs.

It wasn't for Halloween, but I had to bribe my daughter to take a walk with M. a couple months ago - we finally had a decent weekend to get out of the house (aka - not surface of the sun temperature). She didn't want to go, so I put a tutu on our yellow lab and away we went. We got plenty of laughs along the way.

my 16yo son J. put his track shorts on our 83lb labradoodle the other night. Poor CoCoa was not happy about it!

My Sis has a mini dox & the danged dog owns a wardrobe of clothes, costumes, props, & even has his own life jacket for when he rides the jet ski! & ride it, he does!

My boys dress up our yellow lab all the time, not J. Halloween :) most recently she was BatDog with a blue batman mask that she kept on and a cape.
Love the cat idea :) TomCat!

Nope.
I did think about it one year, (believe M., my kids have begged M. to do it) but eventually decided against it. I think the dogs tend to find it embarrassing. I know ours would.
And once she had a bout with seizures a few years ago and they put her on preventative meds, there is no way I would intentionally do anything to unnecessary to stress her out.
Dogs in costumes usually LOOK humiliated.
J. my opinion.

@Kristine D. --the one with the Jockey is the one I ALMOST gave in on a couple of years ago! It would've been cute. We have a black & tan GSD, very race-horse-y.

I never dressed up my cats the entire time I had them (nearly 20 years). Like Hazel W said I would have been clawed by two cats.

Our puppy doesn’t mind wearing clothes so my daughter (6yo) picked out a Wonder Woman costume at PetSmart for her. I would also put a coat on her in the winter if we travel up north, her breed doesn’t do well with extreme cold (or heat).

Some of the animal costumes are so cute. I see them even at the craft store so I guess lots of people include their pets on Halloween.

I would looooooooveee to dress up my pets. They don't like it though, lol - I have 1 dog that I haven't tried it yet I think I will this year! I dressed up one of my dogs as Superman, that costume stayed on for maybe 2 minutes (lol) and I put a hat on my cat once that made her look like a rooster and she J. layed down and wouldn't move. lol
