Oh hell NO! Do NOT get an IUD. So many of the people I have known had it and had major GYN problems. It does not prevent the fertilization of the eggs. It just prevents the egg from adhearing to the uterus wall. When that happens you bleed A LOT! Do you really want that? My advice, and I used to have nasty cycles myself, get on birth control tablets, or patches, or that Nuvaring. I took the traditional birth control pills. It regulated my periods, cut the swelling down, and decreased the pain and bleeding. The reason I don't take them now is because I had a hysterectomy in May. Whatever you decide, make sure you have researched all of the options. Good Luck!

I have had 2 but have not had any bad experiences with them. Just feels like menstrual cramps after-wards.

Are you done having children? If so, you may also want to consider a Novasure ablation.... just a thought.

I'm a little confused....a D&C is Dilation and Curettage, which is scraping out the lining of the uterus. That would take care of bleeding now, but what's to prevent it from happening again? And an IUD is for pregnancy prevention. It irritates the lining of the uterus to prevent the fertilized egg from implanting. Most dysfunctional uterine bleeding is caused by an imbalance of hormones, that does not mean menopause. I would suggest that you get a second and possible a third opinion before proceeding with your doctors recommendation. You might consider having your hormone levels checked by someone who will do more then just tell you they fall within the normal range. I'm not sure what area of town you are in, but Kristin Sarna is at 21st Ave & Happy Valley Road ###-###-####) and she can evaluate your hormone levels. As can several other doctors around the valley. Bio-Identical hormones can help with a wide variety of 'female' problems, for women of all ages. Bottom line is, take some time to do some research on what options are available to you and get some more opinions before you do anything. I know that Ortho Tri-cyclen was approved for DUB years ago and may help until you make your decision. Best of luck to you.

I have had several DnCs for different reasons and have had excellent results. You will feel crampy afterward but nothing too serious.

I also loved my IUD. It didn't take my body long to get back on cycle and I never knew it was there. My husband coul feel it sometimes, but I think you can tell the dr. and they can fix that.

I have had 3 dncs you feel crampy like a period. Other than that I dont remeber any other problems.

I've had two D&C's this year. One just this past Wednesday. The procedure itself is very short. You can search for D&C on the internet to read the specifics of what they do. Afterwards, you'll have some cramping, pain and bleeding. These can range from mild to more severe. It just really depends on how much they do. It can cause scar tissue which can add to pregnancy complications if you're thinking about having more kids. I would plan on taking a few days off just in case so you can take it easy and rest. I have never had a DNC, but I did have heavy periods and have tried 2 IUDs. After my first baby, I tried the copper IUD, but it made everything worse- like my cramps and bleeding- so I didn't like that one at all. I can't take anything with Estrogen b/c it will give me migraines. After my second baby, I talked to a lot of people and now have the Mirena (sp) IUD. I really like that it gives you the prog. that you use in a small and directed way, rather than taking a prog. pill and having it throughout your body. I love it. I now never really have pre-menstration symptoms of pain like I used to - even the emotions are honed down to just a couple of hours of PMS-emotions, but way decreased- usually just a little more irritable. I used to know days before I would start due to emotions, pain, etc. During is amazingly light for maybe 2 days, no cramps or feeling completely drained, and that is about it. I can't say it will work this great for you, but it has helped me so much with my horrible periods for 2 years now. I feel like I got a week or more a month back to function! I have not had a DnC but did get the Mirena after the birth of my little girl and couldn't be happier!! There is about a month of bleeding, regular period at first to spotting, while the uterine wall thins but after that SOOOO much better. I hardly notice any PMS symptoms, have absolutely NO cramping and I spot for 2 days!!!!

Other than hardly having a period each month, I love the fact that the progesterone is local to the uterus rather than your whole body. I always suffered from most of the side effects with the pill and with the Mirena...nothing:) Good luck!!
