Our family has been to both, and for July I would recommend Disneyland. It can be so hot & muggy in Florida in July, and the weather in California is so much nicer. We stayed at Disney's Grand Californian Resort & Spa which is right on property. There is a private entrance/exit from the hotel to the "downtown Disney" area with lots of restaurants and shopping. This main walkway takes you straight to the entrance of both the Disneyland park and Disney's California Adventure Park. It was so easy to spend some time at the park(s), go back to the hotel to rest or swim, then go out to eat or go back to the park(s). We did not have an occasion to leave the property. When we went to Disneyworld a few years ago we stayed at the Polynesian, which is on the monorail. It was a lot of fun, too, but definitely not as manageable as Disneyland. Hope your family has a wonderful time wherever you decide to go!

We have been to Disney 6 times and I have always booked through Disney. It always comes out the same. I book all my travel online except Disney. I call them and book a package. I have searched all different ways and this is the best and does not cost more. Also to www.allears.com for many of your answers. Good Luck

I'll offer a little insight on Disneyland...we just moved from LA to Dallas 18 mos ago - so we had gone to D-Land several times, but of course never had to worry about hotel, etc. It is a smaller park, and depending on the age of your child, could be more manageable. We went to D-World in August, and stayed at one of their properties. You absolutely don't need to rent a car there, (nor would you want to) but be prepared to be their captive. D-World is set up so that it is its own country within Florida. Yes, you use their transportation, but it can take up to an hour to actually get to the park and another to get back to your hotel depending on the time of day and how many stops they are making along the way. It does rain most every day in FL, so people just use the ponchos, and plenty of attractions are indoors. It NEVER rains in Southern California - just like the song :-) And while you would need/want to rent a car, it frees you up to grab an afternoon at the beach if you want - you can drive up to Hollywood to see the Kodak Theater and the footprints at Mann's Chinese theater.... Again, I have no experience with the hotel cost etc of D-Land, but the 2 resorts are completely different kinds of trips. I think everyone needs to experience D-World at some point, but I would save it for kids a little older with more staying power.

We've always booked through Disney for Disney World, either online or on their reservation telephone line. They are very thorough and can help with everything from transportation to rooms to meals. Plus, they are having a big sale right now - buy 4 nights, get three nights free, including park entrance. We're going in May and we're saving $1,200!!

Hi,

I'm a travel agent (who loves anything Disney) and I'd love to help you out if you haven't already found someone. Disney World is having a great special right now. Stay for 7 nights and get 3 of them free. You can call or email me.

I'd just like to add that you should use a travel agent, even if it's not me. I know you can book it yourself - but a qualified agent can really help and it doesn't cost you any more.

Have a great Disney trip!!!!

Only one rises above them all: http://www.smallworldvacations.com/. We used to always book our trips directly with Disney. Last year we decided to go on a Disney cruise and Small World was recommended to us. There is absolutely no charge to you to use their service. Check out their web site. After you submit a request to them, they will assign an agent to you based on your geographic location. Since you are in the Dallas area, you will be assigned to Sandy. She is fabulous! She has 4 young children and her family travels to Disney all the time. She knows exactly what families want and knows about special things and secrets that us 'regular people' do not know about. Since her company is an authorized Disney vacation planner, they are privy to deals and exclusives that you could not get if you booked on your own. She will make all the payments for you and book reservations for dining and special events as well. She will also book your transportation to and from the airport whether you use Disney transport or not. She saved us a bundle on the park tickets! All in all, I can't say enough wonderful things about her and Small World Vacations. We thought we were Disney experts until we met her. Give 'em a try -- there's no obligation at all. Hope you have an amazing trip. Remember, it's the happiest place on earth!

We booked through Disney as well. Just go to their main website -- you can do everything on their site. You can buy a customized package there on the website to include flight and park tickets; meal plans for the # of days you want, etc. I don't know much about DisneyLand -- but Disney World is amazing. So much to do and see - you'll never do it all. We went in August last year- great trip!!
By the way, that website someone recommended -- the correct address is www.allears.net -- it offers great reviews on everything Disney -- hotels, restaurants, park rides -- and these are reviews from regular people -- not professional critics -- oh and there are pictures, too.

I definitely recommend staying on Disney property ... if you book at one of their resorts ... you have free transportation to/from airport -- free bag service (they take your bags directly from the airplane to your hotel room, so you can check into your room and just leave and go directly to the parks); free transportation from hotel to all the parks; you get to stay earlier/later regular park hours at the parks b/c you are a resort guest (this is great time to ride the popular rides; lines are shorter then). Lots of perks.... and yes, if you stay on the monorail -- it is very convenient and fast, but you REALLY pay for that. Those resorts are very pricey. But there are other resorts at different affordable price points ... and those use bus transportation to take you to/from the parks.
We stayed at the Port Orleans resort - very nice, no complaints! Request a room near the bus stop for better convenience.
There's no need to rent a car if you stay at one of the Disney resorts ... everything is right there on disney property.

I have always booked directly with the hotels, airlines and car rentals. It is easy to book things yourself.

We are going back to DisneyWorld for SB. It will be our 6th trip. We always stay at the Polynesian and have quick access to the monorail line. There are perks to staying on the monorail line as well. It has always been worth it to us.

Just get online, explore and book your trip! One thing, Disney is paid in full up front for everything!

I am a good travel agent who can help you book your Disneyland or Disney World vacation. I can help you decide between the two, offer you the best rates and help in your trip planning. Many people offered the advice to book directly with Disney, but why would you do that? The price is the exact same through an authorized agent like myself. When you book with an agent you get the same person every time you have a question, you will get a personalized itinerary at no charge, help with booking your dining, suggestions and information on things you wouldn't even know to ask, and if a better deal comes along after you have booked I will automatically modify your reservatin to save you money! Disney NEVER calls you back and says, "Guess what, I just saved you $400 off your vacation with the new offer announced today." Why would they? I, on the other hand, want you to book with me over and over AND tell your friends so I will bend over backwards to make you happy. Make sense? Even if you made the mistake of booking with Disney directly you can still transfer your reservation to an agent, like myself, for NO charge, your reservation costs the same, AND you get help in planning just like you booked with me from the beginning. What a deal?!?! ###-###-####. I am a local home based agent, an official Walt Disney Travel Agent able to apply and and all offers and pins given from Walt Disney Travel company and Disney Visa Card, and a Disney Expert. Good luck!
