Hello,
My husband and I are thinking about going on a family vacation either this year or next and wondering if anyone has any opinions on which cruise may be better. We were thinking about the disney cruise or the nickelodeon cruise. We have a three 1/2 year old son who loves characters, swimming, slides, etc... Has anyone been on either of these cruises and what do you think about them?
Thanks, L.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We are still in the midst of planning our trip, it sounds like many people have great reviews for he disney cruise. Not many people have gone on the nicelodeon cruise, so there isn't much feedback. I appreciate everyone taking time out to respond, it is always helpfull to hear others opinions when making decisions that will have such a memorable impact for the rest of our lives. Unfortunately I do not like it when people use this site to put down other people's opinions. Please...if you want to leave your opinion that is fine, but do not use my time to put other people down, it is rude!

I don't know anything about Nickelodeon, but the Disney Cruise is fabulous. There is something for everyone. The kids' clubs are wonderful -- designed for specific age groups. You will have a beeper when your son is at the club, and you will have a password for taking him out -- the security is very good. You will also get a schedule of activities for his age group for the entire group, so that you can pick and choose when to send him based upon what you think he would enjoy. The food and service are wonderful. The kids' pool is very nice and has a great Mickey Mouse slide. There is a character breakfast and there are fun character events. We went when my daughter was in 1st grade and she loved it (and so did we).

I have personally been on the Disney Cruise as part of a Make A Wish trip. It was the most magical trip imaginable. My twins, as well as my other three children, enjoyed every minute. Noone wanted to leave the ship when the cruise was over even though they were headed to Disney World. To this day, everyone including the twins, who were almost six at the time, loved the cruise more than their land vacation. There are plenty of characters running around so your son can meet them, get a picture, and an autograph. There are also age appropriate play areas that parents can sign their child in and out of to enjoy while the parents do something on their own. There is always something going on, but you don't have to do anything unless you want to do it. I highly recommend the Disney Cruise. There are different restaurants that you can have your dinner at each night. I do know that you are assigned to the first and last night for dinner. There is one specific restaurant that just blew our minds away with the performance during the meal that just had our mouths open in astonishment the entire time. It was amazing. I'm sorry, but I can't think of the name of it right now. Any questions or if you want to see pics you can email me at ____@____.com. A travel agent can definitely set you up with the perfect arrangements.

I can't speak for the Nickelodeon Cruise, but I'm sure it is fun as well.

My husband and I went on the Disney Cruise for our honeymoon. It was fantastic. It is a very clean ship and SUPER kid friendly. They have tons of activities for children and families. We were so impressed that we said we would return once we have children. Our son is a little young to appreciate it (6 months), however it is on the vacation list for when he is older.

I would highly reccomend the Disney cruise. Disney does everything right.

L., I have a 4 year old and 2 1/2 year old - both girls and we just got back from the Disney Cruise. It was awesome and the perfect vacation. the characters were everywhere and very accessible. We will definitely do another Disney cruise when the bigger ships come out before we take the girls to the parks.

Hi L.,

My name is K. and I am a Travel agent have been for the past 18 years. I have been on both of the Disney cruise line ships and they are great with or without kids. Disney has geared the cruise around families traveling with children. The nickelodeon cruise is held on a Royal Caribbean ship the characters come on board and the cruise is sponorsed by Nickelodeon. Both great cruise lines. You may want to price out both of them and see which one may work out better for your family. Feel free to call my office Will Travel ###-###-#### for pricing.

Hi L.~

Unlike Donna, your first responder, I wouldn't enjoy a cruise as much these days if my son wasn't present. I understand your whole point is that you are planning a "family vacation"... not sure how leaving your son behind qualifies.

My son is 3 also, and we are thinking about a Disney trip or cruise next year too. I am sure you will have a wonderful time WITH your son, regardless of which you choose!

My husband and I went on a Disney cruise prior to having kids and loved it!! We can't wait to take our now 3 year old son on one. I had an opportunity to take a tour of the ship and was amazed at the different kids areas. They have more activities, toys, etc. then your son would ever want. You have to sign your child in/out and, if I remember correctly, they give you a pager should they need to get in contact with you. So you can have private time too without worrying about the kids.
