Disinfecting Toys

Hi!K. I want you to know that the Lysol in the spray can is AWESOME for disinfecting toys! And without harming the batteries or electronics. D. SAHM of 2.

I have two sons ages 5 and 7.
and five cats.
and three dogs.
and three water turtles.
and hundreds of fish.
I have never disinfected my kids toys.
just the tile floors, bathrooms, and kitchen.
The carpet is full of dirt and germs,
so is the yard.
So is the world.
We are all very healthy, only get sick once a year, and my oldest hasn't needed to see a dr in over 3 years!

I jsut caught your post and wanted to warn you against hte Clorox and Lysol disinfectants. These are registered pesticides and not good to have around your children or pets. I don't disinfect my kids toys if they get too dirty I will wipe them down with a damp cloth and some gentle soap. But please use soap that is non-toxic. In my opinion it is not wise to use antibacterial soap or product like Lysol. some germs are good for kids. Antibacterial soap kills all bacteria, there are some bacteria that are good for you and help fight the bad bacteria, using antibacterial soap actually can put you at greater risk of getting sick. You want your kids to be exposed to germs and dirt, it makes their bodies stronger, allows them to for natural immunities.

We usually spray our toys with Lysol Disinfecting spray. Let them sit for about ten minutes; then take soapy water and a washcloth and give the toys a good scrubbing. It works for us, and our family is hardly ever sick.

Try using a spray bottle with your disinfectant in it so it doesn't soak the toys.

We use Clorox wipes on the non-washable toys. They are quick and easy. They don't seem to fade cloth parts and then their is nothing sprayed in the air for my yong sone to inhale. I just after they dry about 30 seconds, I just wipe with a damp water cloth to remove any cloroxy type residue that might be left. It has worked great. Has kept him form getting sick and repeating viruses he has brought home from day care.

Hi, I was a pre-school teacher for 5 years and we used a spray bottle with a mixture of bleach and water to sanitize and clean our toys. Infact it was required by the state to do so. If you use a spray bottle then it is not soaking the toys and they come quite clean. Best of Luck :)

Try Clorox Anywhere hard surface spray. no need to rinse the toys after spraying, and it is compaired to soap and water. I just spray the toys and just let it dry. Hope this helps.

Corporate marketing makes people think they need to buy cleaning chemicals ("safe" or not). If a toy gets really gross (spit-up, dirt, etc) I use soap and water. If I want to really get serious, I dilute white vinegar in water.

I use Melaleuca products and they have a disinfectant that is safe for children and pets. It is called Sol-U-Guard Botanical® Disinfectant. You can order these products online and have them shipped to your door. Good Luck!

I use the Clorox wipes or a wash cloth with warm, soapy water.

I love clorox disinfecting wipes. The are a lot thicker than other disinfecting wipes. I use them on toys that can't be submerged. If it is a soft toy with batteries, sometimes you can take voice boxes out. Good luck!

A safe and VERY effective disinfectant is diluted vinegar in a spray bottle. Can be sprayed anywhere without alarm of overspray. Another safe disinfectant is peroxide. You can put the items in a sink or bucket-- use 3% peroxide(in a spray bottle).
