Dishwasher Issues - Valera,TX

Several times when I've unloaded my dishwasher, all the plastics (including the racks themselves) are coated with a sticky residue. I've tried soaking them overnight in NOW (diluted about 1:1) and running them through the dishwasher with about 2 cups of vinegar (no detergent). They no longer feel sticky, but are definitely NOT clean. Any ideas on how to get them clean? Also, how to prevent this in the future?

What can I do next?

Happened to ours too! The hose from the sprayer (on top of the sink) must have been turning the hot water and cold water valves located under the sink. This prevented the full amount of water to reach the dishwasher. My dishes started getting coated with something. My husband cleaned the drain, hoses, etc., and finally found out about the inadequate water flow. Have not had a problem since. Our dishwasher is 7 years old and is used everyday. Hope this is helpful.

Hello H.,

what detergent are you using? are you using anything in the rinse cup? Is your dishwasher heating the water properly? did you put something very greasy along w/ the other dishes? Sorry I have more questions than answers....
Have you heard of 'that orange stuff'. I've used it a couple of times (on the pre-wash cup) 1 tsp and my dishes are coming out very clean. Good luck! ~C.~

plastic ware is not supposed to be put in the dishwasher ever. The film you are finding is the polymers in the plastic breaking down. This means the chemical compounds used to make the dishware is coating everything including the inside of your dishwasher. I can't quite remember, but I know you have to throw the plastic dishware and glasses away and I think it is vinegar that you run through the dishwasher cycle after you clean the screen in the bottom w/ vinegar.

Try cleaning your filter. Run bleach through first without dishes. You will have to pull it out to get to the filter. Be careful if it has cooper tubing, it will break.
