Disability

Does anyone know if and when you pay taxes on short term disability?

What can I do next?

Probably late - but......

I took STD when I was pregnant with my daughter. I did not have to do anything. I was sent a W-2 from my employer and a seperate W-2 from the insurance company that paid the STD.

Hope it helps,
B.

I went to the IRS website and found this for you.

http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq4-9.html

It gives info on Disability payments. When in doubt you can always pop them an e-mail and ask for their advice.

Hope that helps.

Take care,

I got STD with my job while I was on maternity leave and you Don't have to pay taxes on it (or you didn't 2 years ago).
You might wanna check out the IRS website and see if they have anything if you are gonna be on STD longer than a few months.
Good Luck.

I took my STD with the birth of my child and did not have to pay taxes on the money. They will send you a form and it is considered as wages earned just like your w-2. If you have a tax person just tell them the amount that you recieved, but as I remember it is not taxed.

I believe your employer will take care of the taxed for you. check with your human resources dept and they should be able to give you the answer. if you are self employed I would ocntact your accountant for the correct advise. remember it my be different in every state so always check with a professional.

Good luck
