Dingy Swimsuits After the Pool

I was hoping someone might know what to do about bathingsuits that look dirty and dingy after a day at the pool? Summer just started and already I have 2 new swimsuits that look gross. DD got a white with colorful polkadots swimsuit this year, and it turned tea stained looking after the first wearing. On the same day, I wore a black and white that is now black and yellow/tan. Why does this happen? We go to the YMCA pool, but it happened last year after a day at a different pool too. Anyway, I washed them with no results. Has anyone had success with a certain cleaner, or are these swimsuits done for? Thanks for your help!

It's the chlorine in the pool that mixes with usually the poly blends in the cloth. There's really nothing you can do except maybe try some color safe bleach.

sounds like a chemical reaction to the fabric. May have to steer clear of the "white" accents. Too much bleach in washers turns white shirts dingy over time, could be the same thing.
I don't know if anything to do after the fact, when I was a lifeguard/swim instructor and had to foot the bill for my own suits, I would always soak my suits is special cleaner immediately after getting out (get at sports stores or swim shops - cant remember name) and if I ran out, I used the swim shampoo to neutralize the chemicals.
HOpe that helps a bit.

It depends on the dye used on the suit but in both cases they were bleached out. Believe it or not, white is a dye as well. So once they have been bleached they are done for.

What I would recommend is not buying that brand anymore and also looking at the suits to see if bleach is not recommended. Seriously my ex had a suit that said do not use chlorine bleach! Err, that is pool water, ya know? Why make a suit you can't actually go in a pool with?

All most all public swimming pools go way overboard on the chlorine!

I suggest staying away from the white and absolutely rinse your suits out in cold water as soon as your done swimming, preferably while they are still wet.

Chlorine kills color. Thoroughly rinse them with cold water as soon as you take them off, then hang them in the sun to dry. The sun helps with the discoloration for some reason!

I remember having this problem when I was younger and since then I've just stopped buying white swimsuits but I remember my mom always washing our swimsuits in Woolite. She thought that helped.

my dd does swim team and we go to sylvia swim wear store and buy cleaner for swim suits in a blue bottle.. you use a cap full after swimming and soak it in the sink in cold water.. sometimes i leave it over night if really dirty or 30min to an hour for normal/

Do you apply spray sunscreen? I noticed the same thing on the top of my suit that is also white. It looked stained after I washed it. My daughter uses a rub-on sunscreen and I didn't notice it on hers as I did on mine. I've never had this problem until I started using the sprays.
