Hello beautiful Mamas! I'm in search of a digital baby monitor. I have done some research and have read reviews. I don't believe majority of what I read because I don't trust some sourcs. I wanted to know what real moms reccomend due to your expierence with a digital baby monitor. I want to get it right the first time rather than wasting my time and money. Thanks in advance for taking the time for your input!
Blessings =)

I recently got the Graco iMonitor and I love it. I had a cheapy monitor for 4 years that finally broke. I found the Graco iMonitor on eBay for about $50 and I wish I had got this one in the beginning! The sound is very clear and I love how small it is. The receiver is wireless and comes with several different attachments to keep it with you, or you can just leave it on the base. It has lights with sound and a vibrating option. My boys aren't babies anymore so I just have it for peace of mind. But I really love it. It almost makes me want to have another baby so I can use it longer! ;) (that's not really going to happen!). Hope you find one you like!

We have a Summer handheld video monitor. Love it! There's a little roughness in the sound from time to time, but that's because we use a white noise machine, and the pitch level of it hits a certain spot in the monitor (when we used a different machine or none at all, there is no issue). Also, it has a rechargeable battery pack - we ploug the monitor in over night while in use, and then we have plenty of power for napping and early evening when she's in bed before us.
Before we switched to video, we had a Graco monitor. I don't remember the exact type, but it was the most popular...and we didn't like it. there was always a connection problem with the cord, and when we used batteries with it, it didn't work right.

We also have the Summer Infant Day/Night video monitor and it is TERRIFIC! I love that we can check on him so easily, and I haven't had any problem with static or interference, despite living on a busy block (and in a duplex).

We've been using our Summer Infant monitor for almost 3 years! It's extremely clear both audibly and visually. I would highly reccommend it!

We have the Summer Day/Night Digital Video Monitor. We absolutely love it. We can see our little guy, but don't have to hear all the noises he makes at night. =)

I have a Graco and there is NO static noise--I think it is great! (I returned a Summer brand one due to static.) It also has regular batteries in the base which are good for using it when you can't plug it in (like when camping).

No matter what monitor you choose, take care of the rechargeable battery-- I had to replace mine so I learned a few lessons (RadioShack.com--they don't carry them in the stores). Here's my battery advice:
1-Don't leave it charging for extended periods of time without using it (if you charge it and use it daily that is fine--like a cordless phone, but my problem was that I charged it for days/weeks before using it and that wears the battery out).
2-While not always practical, when you can, use the battery up as much as possible before recharging. batteries can only handle so many recharges.

Agree...Summer Video Monitor. Get the handheld on though. They have a more expensive model that has a small screen TV that you watch the baby through. But you want to be able to move around the house and keep track of your baby. I have friends that got some other model and turns out it's battery operated. Summer isn't which is nice. I plug it in all night long and keep the video on so when I wake during the night I can take a quick peek and go right back to sleep!

Okay - I definitely fall into the category of wanting to have my cake and eat it too. I have BOTH the handheld Summer monitor and the large screen and I like them both for different reasons. The large screen is great for keeping an eye on my son's and his friends when we have a playdate (my living room isn't big enough for all the kiddos and the mommas) and all the moms can keep an eye on the kiddos. At this point the kids have yet to figure out how we know exactly what trouble they're into so well. Wink, wink... I like the small monitor to take with me into the bathroom so I can watch my oldest son in the living room while I give my youngest a bath in the bathroom. (I'm also a bit of a security freak so I like being able to check the living room if I hear a noise in the middle of night without getting out of bed.)
The only thing I DON'T like about the two is I cannot set one camera for one channel and the other camera for the other so I could use both or either monitor with either camera.

I have the Summer Video Monitor and LOVE it. The video aspect is AWESOME. I love checking on my baby every once in a while just to see how adorable he is when he is sleeping and it's pretty cool to watch him play when he first wakes up from a nap or bed and the things he does when he thinks no one can see him. Hehe.

In regards to the rechargeable battery, the way I have kept my battery in good working condition is to charge it at night and then during the whole day I leave it off the charger, charging it too much can wear out the battery. So try to avoid charging it too much at all costs, once you have to start charging it during the day as well as night is when the battery has worn out its charge. It's like a cellphone, you don't ever want to overcharge your cellphone, lithium batteries can't withstand all the excess charging so the recommendation is to use the battery until it is dead and then charge.

I too have a Summer monitor and it works great. I use it a lot at night because we only have a one bedroom and that way I can see if she is really waking up or just moving around.

It's fairly new (we got it about a month ago though I wish I would have bought it when she was first born 7 months ago!) so I don't know about the battery on the handheld. My only disappointment is the camera is not portable. I thought I'd be able to bring it with me in the car or move it to another room. I can, it's more work because I need to unplug it.

But other than that, it has a very clear picture, the camera has a very wide range and you can see great at night.
