I was wondering if anyone has tried any of the over the counter diet aids for weight loss like Hydroxycut, Relacore, SlimQuik, etc. with any success. I am not looking for a miracle pill just something to jumpstart and help with my diet and exercise plan.

What can I do next?

I have tried them ALL and they are a waste of money. I have had the best success with low carb dieting and walking.

I am not a fan of pills. I have lost 66 pounds since August (most of it lost between August and February). My secret, diet and exercise. Be aware of what you are putting in your mouth. I did a food journal for several months till I was very aware of what it would take for me to loose weight. Set a calorie goal based on your age and weight. Do not go below 1200 calores as your body will enter starvation mode. Portion control, weigh and measure what you eat, at least to you see what a serving size is. And exercie, exercise, exercise. Get it in any way shape or form.

Good Luck!!! If I can help in any other ways let me ____@____.com

My advice on this would be if you are going to spend the $40 plus a bottle on a pill you may as well spend it on something that has the potential to have long term effects like Weight Watchers. $40 gets you a month worth of support, diet tips, motivation, and weekly weigh in. Lord knows you don't want your weight to go up at those weigh ins...that's motivation enough. I recently started and love it. Pills only increase your metabolism. You still have to eat right and exercise anyway so why not learn something while your at it!

As a personal trainer, I can tell you there are no miracle pills. The only way to do it is through cutting calories and exercise if you want to take off the weight and keep it off. I do recommend something to my clients that is all natural. It is just a fiber supplement, but it will take the edge off of your hunger, make you feel full so you eat less, stabilize your blood sugar, and decrease cravings. I recommend it to my clients for high cholesterol, but have had good results for weight loss. It is listed in the PDA (physicians desk reference). It is called Bios Life. There are no side effects. It helps promote digestive health. I take it as a fiber supplement. You should be getting 25-30 grams of fiber per day. The average person gets 5-11. Just by adding fiber to your diet, without changing anything else, you could lose up to 10lbs. in a year. So by also eating a healthy diet and exercise, the results are up to you. You can get more information on my web site www.unicity.net/K.

If you need additional help I do run a 6 week Fitmoves Circuit that I guarantee results. The last person we measured lost 1 1/2 inches in their waist just after 7 weeks. This is fat loss. Good luck! If you need any help, let me know.

I haven't tried any of them, but the old saying "eat more to weigh less" holds truth. It naturally jump starts your metabolism. Eat your three main meals plus a snack inbetween and you'll lose the weight without spending the $$. Drink plenty of water and cut down on sugar and carbs. Good luck

Over and over, from experts all around, I hear that those pills make you lose weight, but AS SOON as you stop them , the weight comes back. That means, you need to be on these pills for a lifetime!

Short term quick fixes never work for the long run.

Instead, the old adage we all hate but it truly works: excercise. Incorporate 30 minutes of moderate activity into your day, like a brisk walk with the kids, or if you have a home machine. We got an elliptical machine in our basement so I don't have to worry about going out of the house to excercise. We also got some dumbells.

I recently began my diet to lose about 10 pounds. To jump start, I am on the Slim-fast diet. Along with this diet, I am jumping on the elliptical most days of the week (at 6 am before I go to work, before my daughter wakes up), and lift weights 3x a week. I lift weights in the evening after my daughter sleeps. Adding muscle boosts your metabolism even MORE, and no, you won't look like Arnold Schwarznegger; women cannot possibly do so.

I actually get the Wal-mart version of Slim fast since it's cheaper and same ingredients. It's very easy to follow, you can eat what you want (sans junk food and sodas), and you don't feel hungry. It calls for a shake in the AM, a mid-morning snack on a fruit/veggie, then a shake at lunch with a half turkey sandwich or half a bagel of peanutbutter and jelly (they have so many options to chose from), and then a mid-afternoon snack, and then a sensible dinner, followed by another fruit/veggie. www.slimfast.com provides all the resources and support, all free.

I've only been on it one week and already I've lost 2 pounds. No cravings, no hunger, no midnight insomnia that those pills can cause.

Just my take on dieting. Good luck.

Please, Please, Please don't take any of those pills. They are so bad for your body. They may help you lose weight, but they deplete your body of everything important. I have struggled with my weight quite a bit since I had my daughter, so I totally understand the impulse to want to take something to get back to how our bodies once were. With that said, drink Green Tea! Lots of Green Tea, not the powdered stuff or Lipton with sugar, but real green tea. It has natural elements that help suppress appetite and give you energy, alonq with a low caffiene content to help get you moving, which is really how to lose weight! I also am a huge, huge fan of something called Kombucha (come-boo-cha). It is a fermented tea that has lots of good stuff in it that helps bring your body back to an equilibrium. It also has a appetite suppressent effect and if you get a good flavor(try the strawberry), it is a great mid-day treat for a busy mom. You can get it at most health food stores, I know they sell it at Whole Foods. Good Luck, and know you are not alone in the struggle.

Avoid products with ephedra. Of course they work - it is a stimulant with serious thermogenic effects (speeds up body systems, metabolism, and raises body temperature).

The downside to ephedra is, well, death. Not saying everyone who takes it will die, but the incidences of death and suffering from serious side effects was so great that ephedra was banned by the FDA.

Focus on a balanced diet and exercise plan - something you can adopt for a lifetime instead of a quick fix.

Hi M.,
I too have lost a few pounds with a cleanse, but my sister who really wanted to lose a good amount of weight has just lost 17 lbs (plus 5 inches off her waist, and 6 inches off her hips!) in 2 and half months, using a product called Slimplicity. If you're interested, you can look at their web site slimplicity.com and contact me to get more info.
Incredible product, absolutely safe/nutritious, and there's a 100% money back guarantee.
My sister works out at the YMCA, and has for a while, but this is the first time she's been able to lose weight without feeling deprived.

M.!! well well well! you asked the right gal! ha! i am a pro with this, ive tried almost everything!

ok, here's some advice! back in 2001 i used hydroxycut and LOVED IT! great results, i dropped 30lbs in less than 2 months ~~ however DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY NOW! since they banned ephedra in IL they had to change the recipie and the new hydroxycut is a waste of money. ive tried all of the diet aides from GNC with NO LUCK, i have not been happy at all since they banned ephedra, luckily GNC has a money back gaurantee so if you do buy anything from there, save your reciept and if youre not happy bring back the unused portion for a full refund. coffee gives me more energy and cuts cravings more than any of the new pills i've tried in the last few years

there is a 9-day cleanse im VERY HAPPY WITH, i "cleansed" 3 times so far since last march.... i dropped 17 lbs on it the first time i used it, 9lbs the 2nd and 7lbs the 3rd. it takes A LOT of will power though, you have to follow the program exactly for 9days but if you do you'll be VERY HAPPY!! if you want to try it let me know and i'll get you in touch with a distributor (you have to special order it)

hope that helps and GOOD LUCK!

I strongly recommend Weight Watchers. I lost 45 pounds on the diet and was able to eat "real" food. Check out weightwatchers.com to see where meetings are located near you.

Good luck!
