I believe my 7 year old daughter may be slightly ADHD. I'd like to change her diet to see if that helps before I go any further w/ testing etc. Does anyone know what foods I should eliminate and what foods, recipes etc. that I should add to her diet? TIA!

What can I do next?

Try a hypoglycemic diet - it eliminates most sugars....my daughter has been eating that way now for a few yrs - sometimes it's hard - she gets frustrated...but WELL worth it! She now is an A & B student - when before we struggled just to pass. We saw a Dr in Plano that came highly recommended...and worked hard to help us - he did brain scan and actually found that the ADHD meds were not working for her!!!!! That's when we found out she was hypo-glycemic! Not saying she is not adhd any longer....the diet did it though!

Good Luck! We also worked with a gal in Grapevine that does cognitive lessons - teaching kids how to work without meds....we are very big on that!

My daughter has severe allergies and I thought she had bipolar due to her behaviour. Found out she had toxins in her body. We used Morinda Supreme and it has changed our lives. The doctore we went to is Dr. Lewis Cone in Dallas.

Hi M.,
I am a Shaklee Independent Distributor. If you haven't heard of Shaklee it is a nutrition company. I sell supplements, air, water cleaners, non-toxic household cleaners and on.... Shaklee led me to a book by Dr. Richard Brouse called "Build A Better You." He agrees with the M. that says allergens can be a contributor. He also feels artificial colorings and flavorings can be a problem, and household cleaners. You may want to try to pick up the book at the library and just review some of his ideas. A few small changes may make a big difference.

Definatly remove any red dye foods. Tomatoe sauce, pizza, ect. Subsitute sugar with splenda and natural sugars found in fruits. My son suffered ADHD but through lots of prayer has grown out of it. He is 12 now and I couldnt be prouder with his behavior. Remember this also...All kids are hyper. At least 98% ha ha. Dont worry too much about it. I know it wears you out trying to keep up but let medication be a last resort. I had a bad experience with medicating my son. Ill pray for you. There are books at your local library that will help you understand more about whats going on and how to cope and deal with it.

Hi! My son has autism and is 20 months old. We had to really restrict his diet. We placed him on a gluten/casein free diet which did wonders. In the process, I ran across a cookbook called the Kid-Friendly ADHD-Autism Cookbook.
It's a great resource with great info and recipes. Regardless, the advice of the others is great...especially a hypoglycemic diet. Removing sugars isn't easy but you'll find that with a little research, it can be done. They can still have most of their favorite foods just with substitute ingredients. My son is now on an even stricter diet called the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) which is really time consuming. Needless to say, I feel I've got a bit of experience in coming up with snack ideas. So, if you need some advice, feel free to send me an email!

here's a link to the book:

Hi M. M,

I do not have a food suggestion - but I do have another suggestion for you to look into.

The DORE program is a scientifically based and proven program that has helped thousands of children permanently overcome learning difficulties. This program does not teach coping strategies or tricks, it actually changes how the brain is processing information through highly personalized exercises.

Please go to Youtube.com and search DORE and you can see many testimonials from children and parents. Then go to www.dore.co.uk to get more information. The DORE program is available at The Cerebellum Center in Dallas www.cerebellumcenter.com

Please let me know if you have any questions!

All the best!
