I guess they've decided Tylenol is startin to mess us up so they've lowered the max from 8 to 6 tablets a day. I knew it was bad for your liver, but for them to actually lower the dosage that probably means it's a little worse than most of us thought?

Tylenol has never worked for me so I dont have any, I'm an ibuprofen user when necessary.
My mom recently developed a bleeding ulcer from use of NSAIDs as recommended by he doc for arthritis pain. not a fun experience. Try alternative remedies for pain first like heat or ice.

Jo W. is incorrect. Acetaminophen is significantly more dangerous on average than ibuprophen (the generic name for Tylenol).
Based on my (brief) web research, for acetaminophen "single doses above 10 grams or 200 mg/kg of bodyweight, whichever is lower, have a reasonable likelihood of causing toxicity."
By comparison, for ibuprophen, "Toxic effects.....can be severe above 400 mg/kg."
However, individual tolerance varies significantly. I met someone whose baby died of Tylenol overdose....when following the doctor's instructions exactly. The baby had an unusually low tolerance for acetaminophen. Other people, of course, are allergic to ibuprophen.
Overall, be cautious about using NSIADs (the umbrella term for most over-the-counter pain relievers/fever reducers). Use them carefully when you need them. Don't use them at all when you have good alternatives. Of course, that's true for all medications.
I think it is ibuprofen that causes liver damage and now I am not even sure if that is correct. My doctor told me to ignore the news stories and take as much as I need to stay pain free after my knee surgery.
I really think the issue is more with people that take too much for too long.
I recommend you check with your doctor about what dose is safe for you. I believe they lowered the dosing because so many people actually overdose themselves by not following the directions.

I've been against Tylenol for several years. But when I put my back out and I knew they say we can take it AND the ibuprofen, I did take it. My mother is on various drugs for her heart and they say that's all she can have. I'll make sure she knows about the change. Thanks :)
Thanks! I stopped using Tylenol, though, when they had all the children's recalls. Don't trust 'em anymore :)
I use advil and excedrin migraine now for me and a different children's medicine. Like LeeLee S. I started raising an eyebrow when they had to recall a lot of the kid's medicines.
Tylenol is the only thing I can take that I'm not allergic to. Thankfully, I don't take it very often.. thanks for the heads up. =)
Tylenol doesnt work for me either. From what i understand, it is filtered through your liver. High doese are toxic to the liver. Motrin, Advil, etc are filtered through the kidney. I am supposed to only take tylenol. Unfortunately, i still take NSAIDS because they work :(
