Diapers: Cloth / Disposable

I'm a part time cloth diaperer with my boy (2 1/2). It's not that bad, imo. I use disposables on the go and cloth diaper at home. Whenever we have our next I'll probably go strictly cloth. There are so many choices out there now.

I used cloth with my son. You do have to wash more often.
Since it is not comfortable when wet, it was easy to potty
train him. My Dad taught me how to fold a boys diaper, and
could not remember how to fold a female diaper.
Did not take that much longer to change once you have the pins
mastered. I did save money...was not out buying diapers every
paycheck for 2 years.

I used disposable with my oldest 2 boys (now 11 & 9) but I use cloth with my now 2yr old. The only time I used 'sposies was at the hospital, and when we first came home I used the rest of the 'sposies they had given me. I do let my in-laws use 'sposies too, even though my MIL tries her hardest to use the cloth, she just can't figure them out fast enough for my wiggle worm!
I only have about 1 extra load a week now, but in the beginning, I had 2 to 3 a week when my stash was smaller, and poo was more frequent. For me, it was much easier to wash diapers than run out at an inconvient time and have to get more.

Years ago I tried cloth diapers. They were not as good as disposibles. The reason is flannel to day is not as nice as years ago. Then you have to have plastic covered panties and it leaked and was awful. After a few months of doing those cloth diapers I was happy to pay the price. Besides it costs a lot of electricity to wash every day a few loads of diapers. That was 30 years ago when disposibles first came out and they were not perfected but still better then the cloths.

We tried cloth with my baby when we first brought her home...DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME..It was cheaper but I was always washing and I got fed up and went to disposable. My life was so much easier. When you have your first baby you have bigger and better things to worry about, not if you have enough diapers clean.

I used cloth diapers for my first two children. I really liked them; however, I used a diaper service. There was no way that I was going to wash them myself. The diaper service really made it very convenient, but it was probably comparable in price to disposables. (I paid about $80 per month back in 2001-2002). The velcro diaper covers are really cute and make it just as easy as disposables. I lasted about 6 months and then went strictly with disposables. I tried to find a diaper service when I became pregnany again, but I had no luck locating one in the DFW area.

Cloth user here and I love it. I don't have to waste money by throwing a diaper away every time my daughter soils it!!! The laundry part is easy, just like washing your clothes!!!

Also - if you have girls - oh the diapers for them can be so cute!!!

We prefer fitted diapers and wool here (fitted diapers are not waterproof, but when you put lanolized wool covers over them, the wool acts as the waterproof barrier - very natural).

I am in the process of trying them. Go to Babies Bottoms and More in Plano. Diana is a jewel and will tell you all you need to know, including allowing you to get a "trial" pack. I am surprised at the brands I like, not mommys touch and fuzzibunz!

This is my second child. It is a little more time consuming. I am still on the fence. But, remember it's not an all or nothing thing. You can do a combo of disposables and cloth. I find you have to change a lot more often with cloth to avoid leakage. I agree with another response that it's probably a lot to take on with a first baby. HTH!

We have been cloth diapering my baby since she was born. I can't imagine paying money to throw away disposables. My baby is now 9 months old.
