Diaper Recommendations for Large Baby Boy
I almost feel silly asking this, but I have a diaper issue...
My son is 16 weeks and weighs 20 lbs already. We've been having a hard time finding diapers that do not leak. At 2 months, I quit Huggies because it didn't absorb pee quickly enough lying down and would leak out the top. We went to Pampers Swaddlers and had great success, but they only go to size 2. We're in size 3 now. Pampers Baby Dry leaks BMs out the top every time. So, we tried Pampers Cruisers, but now those are leaking pee. We've come full circle.
Has anyone had the same issues? Any diaper recommendation so we can quit wasting money on diapers that leak? He's got a nice set of love handles, so we need tabs that stretch and don't cut into his thighs. :)
Thanks!
So What Happened?™
Thank you all for your tips! We switched to size 4 Pampers and are having better luck. I'm sure the tips for the overnight diapers will be needed soon - I wouldn't have thought about that. I'm also going to give White Cloud a try. Thank you all!

Hi B. - I also used the pampers swadlers until I had no choice but to go to a size that they no longer made them in, and I went to the "Huggies Supreme" brand. Not the regular brand - the Supreme brand. I have not had any issues with leaky diapers, I actually buy my daughter the "huggies overnight" for nightime and she does really good with those as well.
Good luck!

Well if you like the fit of the Pampers Cruisers and all it's doing is leaking out pee and not poop, maybe you should try using diaper doublers. I know they used to have them at Kroger. It's like a big maxipad that you put inside the diaper and it helps absorb the pee. Works great! We had to use them with my daughter for when she slept because she always leaked out at night.

I had the same problem with my oldest son who is now 3.5. Have you tried Huggies Overnights? They worked great. Also, you may know this already, but be sure that his "pee-pee" is pointing down when you diaper him. Before I learned this quick trick, we had tons of diaper leaks out of the top of the diapers. Good luck!

HI B.,
I love the White Cloud diapers at Walmart. They were the only ones that didn't leak and they were cheap. Good luck!

I too have a big baby! He was 9 lbs 4 oz at birth... we've had diaper issues too. We are using Pampers Cruisers and I line his diapers at night with a huge - maximum - absorbancy- bladder- control pad, using one size up diaper for night to compensate for the bulk of the pad.
There was another question about diapers on 3/8 by Maggie, you might want to scroll down a few pages to look at those suggestions.

First off...welcome to the world of chunky monkey boys...aren't those thights just adorable!!! Both my big boys too. Pay no attention to the weight ranges on the diaper boxes. We discovered that when they started leaking pee or poop, then the size was too small. So, try going up to a size 4 Pampers Cruiser. Cruisers are what worked best for us. If you have any questions or just want to talk to another mom of big boys, contact me anytime.

Probably a dumb question, but are you putting his penis down when you change his diaper?
another idea - at night (if they come in a small enough size) try Huggies Goodnights - they aren't pretty but they are very absorbant - I used these on my daughter when she was about 18mos old and was just soaking her diapers at night.
good luck!

I'd recommend the Overnights by Huggies. Our son was leaking overnight and these stopped it completely. I think they start at size 3, but it has been awhile, so I might be wrong.
