Diaper Rash from Citrus

I have started giving my son a little bit of citrus fruits. He really likes it but he gets a diaper rash. The doctor said that would happen, but will it eventually go away after his body gets used to it? Will orange jiuce mixed with water be too much for him. I have yet to try it because I am afraid for his cute little booty!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

thanks for eveyone's reply to my citrus question! We will take all the yummy citus fruits on a little at a time!

I have really really diluted any orange juice I have given my daughter just in case she's allergic to it...as I am.

When she gets a tinge of diaper rash, I use Triple Antibiotic first and then use Desitin on top. So her skin has an extra layer of protection between changes, especially when she's at daycare (where they only use the Desitin when they remember).

I have twins that are 2 and a half and neither of them can eat citrus without breaking out!!!! The funny thing is I have a 5 yr old who never had any issues at all!!!

When my daughter was a baby and really up until she was about 4 or 5 I gave her about 2 oz of juice to 6oz of water. She had no idea it should taste any differently lol You might also make sure to try one of the milder juices. Some are less acidic than others.

And by all means, IF he gets a rash do not use regular baby wipes when cleaning his cute little booty. Put a paper towel under warm water and use that. The baby wipes will burn the rash and make it even more painful for him.

Maybe if you keep feeding him the diluted juices and so forth, but put diaper rash cream on him every time you change his diaper whether he has a rash or not. It couldn't hurt, anyway.

We use lactonix granules which you ask for at a pharmacy window. With this added to her drink once a dy...no diaper rash and she can drink anything...

WHY are you so intent on giving him juice in the first place?? Juices are nothing but EMPTY calories! Give him FRESH ORANGES if you are wanting him to get some nutrition! So many moms give their kids juice thinking that it is healthy and it is NOT!!!! Juice is LOADED with SUGAR! my kids drink milk or water (or sugar free kool aid or crystal light--that i make myself--much cheaper!)! There is an epidemic of childhood diabetes that is directly linked to what our kids are eating (way too much sugar--ie breakfast cereal and juice and sodas). I am a SAHM with 2 sons that are 5 and 9. My husband is an MD (a doctor) and 2 of my best friends are nutritionists and they ALL agree with what i am telling you! Now, don't take it to the extreme and NEVER let them have juice or sugary stuff, but you really don't need to make these things staples in your fridge and pantry! I don't deny my kids anything when it comes to food, but i try and help them make healty choices that will carry them through life!

The same happened to my son. When he started eating tomatoes and oranges he would get horrible diaper rashes. So we would just give him a little bit at a time, and now he eats them all day long and no more diaper rashes. The same thing happened when we gave him an apple for the first time. But he only got the diaper rash once, and now he dosent get diaper rashes from them anymore. Good Luck - I know its a pain....

T., Oj is best diluted, also FYI we always start the little ones out on canned mandarin oranges they are not as acidy as fresh naval oranges. Just make a gradual transition.
