Frequent changing, switch to frangrance free wipes, and use vasaline, not destitin. The fragrance in diaper cream can make the rash worse. Also, keep the diaper off for as long as you dare.

If you breastfeed look at what you have been eating recently. My baby had a rash when I ate too much chocolate at Halloween :(

I have 2 children grown now and 5 nieces and nephews and they all used Corona it was made for the farm, but it was something a Doctor told my mother about it. With 7 children in the family we never worried about a bad diaper rash. I would say we used it every if not every other diaper change. I will have my first grand child soon and they will be using it also. I hope this will help you as much as it did our children.

You should see your doctor. It may not be diaper rash at all. Babies can get yeast infections, boys and girls and it looks alot like diaper rash. My nephew use to get them alot when in diapers. Using over the counter products that you'd use are to harsh you need to have it looked at to confirm what exactly you're dealing with. Good luck!

if you cant clear up a diaper rash in a day or so with over the counter creams.. then you should go to the dr.

a nice warm bath will help clean and soothe her sore bottom.

I use desitin and it always works for my kids.

But if the rash is not improving then go to the dr for advice.

You definately want to see the doctor to make sure it isn't a yeast infection. They are really painful and can get infected if not treated right away.

Diaper rashes are caused by the constant wet and irriatated by the poo and pee. The best thing to do is wash the bottom with a non-soap cleaner like cetaphil when its poo and use wash cloths with just water when it's pee. The commercial wipes can actually make the rash worse and most have alcohol in them which will hurt really badly when used. After the bottom is clean make sure it is COMPLETELY dry before putting the diaper cream on as that will only trap the moisture next to the skin and make the rash worse. The best diaper creams are the ones with zinc oxide and are really thick. Original Desitin is my favorite because it's real sticky and won't all wipe off on the diaper. If you don't like the smell then Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Diaper Rash Cream works really well too. Make sure you don't scimp on the cream if there isn't enough then the diaper will just get all of it and nothing is left to protect baby's bottom.

Good Luck and remember frequent diaper changes with wash cloths and water (like in the hospital) and let baby air dry as often and long as possible.

If you have already made sure it's not yeast, try pure corn starch. I swear that it works....I've seen it work on diaper rash that NOTHING else would even come close to treating! Plus, it's natural!

You might want to consider that it was caused by a reaction to something you child ate. I don't know how old your child is, but it could be that as well. My DS had a HORRIBLE rash, it was really bad, because at 14 months he ate some food with milk in the ingredients. We haven't given him milk since.
I actually used Arbonne Diaper rash creme.. I used to sell it and had some on hand and it worked well. Something with zinc oxide is usually good.

we had a very bad diaper rash last year and the dr. told us to use aveeno oatmeal baths, and let the bottom air out as much as possible.

My friend suggested using Gold bond baby powder, I found it at wal-mart in with the baby powders. It's yellow with a red top and is cornstarch. We used a combo of that and cloth diapers with a disposable diaper put on lightly over the cloth. It was a mess but cleared up in a few days.

The biggest things are to keep the area clean and dry. Therefore, during diaper changes try to leave the diaper off and let the area get some air. My daughter just had a terrible diaper rash and I would put a pad underneath her and let her play for 5 -10 minutes during her diaper changes with her diaper off. Also, try to change the diaper frequently - I even changed hers in the middle of the night. As for cream, I recommend something with zinc oxide in it.

If it is diaper rash, try getting Vitamin E capsules and pricking them with a needle or pin and squeeze it onto the rash. If it is a bad rash, I usually use 4-5 capsules at a time to cover it well. It works wonders!

Hi K.,

My son had severe diaper rash due to a gastro-viral infection and we used Triple Paste and aquaphor. We let him air out as much as possible and we changed him often. I even had daycare change him every hour. It so painful for the poor babies. I hated changing his diaper and wiping him. It broke my heart.

Try Desitin Creamy. It worked great on my daughter. Or anything with a lot of zinc. That's what cures it.

It is a old remedy of my mothers. Diaper rash is usually from too much acid in the system or fruits they are eating or heat and bacteria but the best remedy that always worked for me is using baking soda in the bath water. Let them set and play and in no time the baking soda will nutrelize the acid and the rash will go away . after drying as it stated,..you can use corn starch or mineral oil,.not baby oil,..baby oil has perfume in it,..mineral oil is without perfume. But do this bathing twice a day and after bathing use the corn starch or mineral oil on affected area.

Give alot of water not juice as this adds to the acid or dilute the juices with water. and also saltine crackers absorb the acid in the system ,..let them eat some crackers

My grandson had extream diaper rash and the other grandparent asked me and I gave her the same advice..the rash was gone the next afternoon. They had bought a rash cream that cost $24.00 the doctor told them to use that did no good at all. So I guess this is a natural ,..inexpensive way to cure the rash that worked better then a prescription. The other grandmother was very impressed to say the least and passed the knowledge on to her side of the family for their children..

Daily baths and Auquophor healing ointment. If it doesn't clear up in 2 days, call your dr. you may need a prescription or it may be a yeast infection.
