Bacitracin ointment is my go to when it is really bad. Boudreaux's Butt Paste is also good. Make sure that something is not causing it like too much citrus (our problem). Ditch the wipes in favor of warm, wet papertowels or a wash cloth. If you can get the little one in the sun that is also helpful.

Matters. If you are using disposables then any ole diaper ointment will do, but if you are doing cloth diapering you have to be careful. Many brands use oily or petroleum products in them and that causes the cloth diapers to not absorb as well.

Monistat and lotramin when it has gotten to the bad point other than that help coat it with aquafore and desatin, air it out but some times it is a yeast infection that they call bad diaper rash yes even in boys.

Pinxav or Resinol. I tried Triple Paste, but I wasn't impressed. They have a money back guarantee on it though, so if you try it keep that in mind (I'm glad I saw it on the package).

Aveno diaper rash cream or just plain butt paste...

If it is really bad use Bacitracin or Neosporin with pain relief (ointment, not cream). Never use diaper rash cream with baby powder, it keeps the area moist and can irritate.

Antibacterial if you think it looks like an infection - and call your pediatrician. Could be Staff or yeast. Never use baby powder on those.. calamine lotion will keep it dry and the itch away. Let baby walk around diaperless as often as possible to air out. (Put baking soda in bath water, helps with the burning sensation and dries out the infection.)

Bad rash - Use ointment with Neosporin or Bacitracin

Normal or small rash - Diaper cream is ok

Triple Paste is the only thing that works on 2 of my 3. The both have sensitive skin and it is the best! The only other one that works is Butt Paste and that doesn't always work every time.
All the rest don't do anything and can actually make it worse.

No wipes! Warm water on a baby washcloth only.
Let it "air out" as much as possible.

I believe that what I used was called Triple Paste? It is extra thick and stayed put, worked wonders. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it for your little one. Also, I agree that letting the little bottom get air for a bit is a big help! Hope this helps!

Luckily I didn't have to deal with this issue but I have read that getting as much air to the area as possible will help so letting him/her go without a diaper as often as you can may help. I know there are a lot of pastes/creams out there that are waterproof and should still provide some relief when the next wet diaper comes. I would ask your pediatrician or pharmacist to recommend one. Good Luck & I hope your little one feels better soon!

A&D ointment!!! They gave it to me for my tattoo, and my step mom, who is a nurse, told me that they use it for bedsores on the elderly in nursing homes. It worked great!

Here's what worked for a persistent summer rash that my 2.5 yo son picked up after sitting in a wet diaper too long after swimming in Lake Michigan. When it was in the angry, red, and painful stage -- we used Triple Paste (we slathered it). When it was out of that stage and just hanging on, we stopped the TP and just used Desenex (foot powder) twice a day and Caldesene powder the rest of the time. Our pediatrician said that we should stop using the TP after the first stage b/c what he needed was to dry out, and the powder accomplished that better than either paste or cream. Good Luck!

A&D or Butt Paste. When it dries out a little bit, I use aquaphor. It sooths the skin and prevents urine from irritating the rash.

I haven't tried it yet, but I have heard triple paste works wonders. You need to ask the pharmacist for it, but a prescription is not needed.

I also let my son run around without his diaper during times when I can really watch him closely and catch any messes that he makes :-)

We always used Balmex. We tried to prevent diaper rash with scent-free diapers/wipes and using A& D ointment after each diaper change so that the poo wouldn't stick to the skin. Good luck. :-)

Use one that has zinc oxcide in it. It does wonders!
