Hi moms my son has a serious reaction to omnicef he gets really bad diahrea, then he gets extreme diaper rash. We try everything, and it burns get so red. We went to the doctor and he said it is a yeast infection but we already are using the meds for that(Vusion) so I turned here to see if there is some kinda old wifes remedies that are great for this. I asked my mom if she knew what she used on us, she says desitin. We tried that, plus it seems like everything that has a strong smell, burns more. So what am looking for are like home remedies. Thanks in advance!!! :-)

Hi, my name is J. and I am a mother of 2 boys. My youngest is 9 1/2 mos old and just recently started having cases of Diaper Rash. My husband and I read online that a mom used Baking Soda in the tub. You sprinkle some in the tub let it dissolve and let your baby soak (play) for about 15min. We let him air dry and then put him to bed with just baby powder on his bottom. We also tried Desitin and I have some Arbonne Herbal Diaper Rash treatment and noticed that it wasn't quite clearing up as much as just making sure he was DRY and using the powder. This whole weekend we've only applied powder and it's almost gone. Hope it helps you too!

Hi C.-

We have used "Triple Paste" for serious diaper rash. Whenever my daughter cuts a tooth she gets this wicked diaper rash which seems to appear out of nowhere-and it is BAD. This Triple Paste is miraclulous. It is often kept w/the pharmacist behind the counter but you don't need a prescription for it. It is not cheap-about $7 or $8 a tube but it works.

Good luck,
N.

C.,

Here are a couple of ideas to try.

1. I agree with the previous post. Try some OTC Lotrimin and put on every diaper change.

2. I also would try after a diaper change letting the area air dry for a few minutes before putting any cream/ointment on it and then put the ointment and a little bit of pure cornstarch (not powder). I have found that works wonders. The cornstarch absorbs the excess moisture plus provides a barrier to the skin so when they use the bathroom it doesn't hit the skin immediately.

3. Also you can try a coating of vaseline which again protects the skin by providing a barrier to wetness, etc.

Hope this helps!

Hi C.,

The previous posts sound really good. What we did with my daughter was give her probiotics with her breakfast (but she was older than your child so this may not work for you). We also took her off of all refined sugar. Sugar feeds yeast infections.

Her doctor had us put Vitamin A & D cream on her instead of Desitin. It served as a moisture barrier and helped. We also let her sit and play in the bathtub with no soap in it. It seemed to help alot as well.

My daughter took that same medication and got a terrible diaper rash. We were not sure if it was from the medicine or loose stools. The doctor gave us NuZon you will need a scrip. for it. I would put that on, then Dr. Smiths and them Triple Paste. It was gone in two days. Then I just continued the Triple Paste for the next week.

Let him play naked in the sun... it works wonders! Why does your son take medication? I'm not familiar with omnicef. Do you breastfeed? You could put some of that one rash. A lot of times i will let my daughter play in the tub for a long time .. no soap.. and it eases the rash.
