Hello moms, any recommendations to heal diaper rash? I change diapers very often, how did this happen? Possibly diaper allergy? Your feedback is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

My youngest daughter had bad diaper rash for a while until I discovered Penaten - it's a miracle cream! --> http://www.amazon.com/Penaten-Baby-Creme-5-1-cream/dp/B00...

Triple Paste is also very good.

Could be something you are eating (if you breastfeed), the formula he is drinking (if you do formula) OR it could be the diapers.
Some kids are allergic to the chemicals in the diapers.

I just moved to using cloth and I know it sounds crazy! I thought that for a long time. My kids are 1 & 2 and I just now did it. WOW I wish I had done it sooner... seriously look into it. They aren't old school anymore. They look just like diapers with snaps and all. Even my husband can put them on :)
Look up all in ones and inserts! I recommend inserts the most. Easier to clean and dry...

Anyhow good luck finding the issue, but if you have any cloth diaper questions are need advice where to look just message me. It isn't as scary as you would think. And in the long run, what a savings!!!

Yes it happens. No matter how diligent you are about changing, applying ointment etc.. When my now 3 month old was a couple weeks old she too had terrible diaper rash. I switched to Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive. Cleaned her with 7th Generation wipes (pricey but worth it for temp use, they are like cloth) applied Butt Paste and cornstartch powder after each bm. And a few times daily applied just a little bit of jojoba oil to ras and of course let her go diaperless here and there. It took time but it did work. I think the skin is just soo sensitive and the frequent poops are just alot for that perfect new skin. :) Now we use regular diapers and wipes but I still apply butt paste after her bm's. Her skin is great! Hope it helps!

could be something you are eating like eggs, wheat, gluten or dairy. Could be just just sensitive skin. Desitin works the best for us. The creamy white kind. You may also need to rince baby with a water and pat dry and let the air dry him out a little. Keep the diaper kind of loose so skin isn't touching the wet diaper too much.

Hands down, the very best cure for a en of the mill diaper rash is a hair dryer! Use low or no heat on clean, washed behind, use it for five or ten minutes, you will see the redness clear. Then, put on a thick protective barrier of desitin. We got this advice from a pharmacist about 18 years ago, and it worked great.

If it persists, see your pediatrician to be sure it is not yeast.

They have such sensitive skin. Try putting a barrier between the bum and the wet with butt paste or something similar. Also, is it just where the wet is, or all around the diaper area. There could be an allergy to the disposable diaper, or wipe.

Best thing I found is "butt paste" for diaper rash, clears it in a day. Does not make a difference on the babys age- just be sure not to get it on the unhealed belly button- you don't need to use much. Make sure to change pamper frequently, even at night.

It might also be yeast infection, sounds weird for a baby and a boy, but it happened to two of my little ones as newborns. A special cream - prescription from the Dr. clears it in a day or two. It looks different then a diaper rash. Check out this link with images (not while your eating lolz) of different baby rashes- #7 is yeast rash:

Good luck!

The answer lies in what he is eating. His body is too acidity and it should be alkaline. Usually this is milk/soy allergy. If you breastfeed, cut both out of your diet. If he has formula, try one that is lactofree. Also put him on a baby probiotic.

Don't blame yourself...some kiddos just have sensitive skin. My first son came home from the hospital with a diaper rash. I had to ask my SIL what it was...yup, I was that person who knew NOTHING about babies!!

Anyway, we have had luck with Balmex & Butt Paste to clear the rash up. Also, once rash is cleared up, you may want to put a layer of Vaseline on his bum for protection.

And air him out as much as possible. It will be messy, but fresh air is the best thing. I used to put one of those grocery store throw away bags on my tummy flat, then a cloth diaper on top of that, then lay my naked newborn on me on his belly with a blanket over him. This way we cuddled, and when he peed it didn't get me all wet.

I'm not sure of the cause, but our 3 week old has had a terrible diaper rash since about the first week. He pooped a lot in the hospital (and continues to), but I'm really not sure of the real cause. I tried using 7th generation diapers this time, but it turns out, like my daughter, he couldn't handle them. (They gave my daughter irritation within 2-3 diapers!) By the time we made a diaper switch, his bottom was really raw. He screamed like someone was torturing him during every diaper change. We switched to using cloth wipes with water only. (Seriously, a very important thing.) After using a zinc barrier cream and aquaphor (and neosporin at the doc's direction), I finally took him to the doctor. I have been on antibiotics for a post-delivery infection, so I think that they made it worse for him. But the doc prescribed a heavy antibacterial (Bactroban) and an anti-fungal/steroid cream to alternate with. After using that for 4 days, we still saw little progress. If anything it was worse, as he was bleeding. (And we were feeling worse and worse!!)

My brother in law recommended an ointment called Resinol. You ask your pharmacy to order it and they get it the next day. In less than a day, our little guy is no longer crying through diaper changes and his bottom is healing. The ointment contains petrolatum, resourcinol (not sure what that is), calamine, zinc, lanolin and something else. If you want to heal the rash, I would highly recommend trying it. Once it is healed, you should definitely explore the many tips you've already received. Trust me, we'll be doing the same.

They used to say corn starch but you can go to Walgreens and ask the pharmacy what cream to get for it. They have some really good ones out there that work great now.
