My friend just called me and asked if I knew any tricks to getting diaper rash ointment out of hair/carpet. She has a 3 year old and a 2 year old. They got ahold of a tube of ointment and proceded to "paint" EVERYTHING!! The worst is their hair and the carpet. Any suggestions???
An adult shampoo for oily hair (need to be carful of the eyes) should work in a couple of washes for the hair. If that does not work Dawn dishwashing liquid. For the carpet spot test first but try a degreaser like 409 or Arm and Hammer natural cleaners degreaser I know it's worked on clothes for me. Spot Shot carpet clean seems to work on most anything for me, but I have not had diaper cream on my carpet YET (oh but my day is comming LOL).
Try Goo-Gone on the carpet. I've used it to remove motor oil from carpet, and it worked great on that.
Not sure about the carpet but for the hair tell her to put Dawn dish soap all throughout their hair BEFORE wetting it. Massage it in and then start the washing process. My babysitters kids put hair grease in my daughters hair when she was little (they didn't realize the difference in hair types/textures) and that is what we had to do to finally get it all out! And maybe for the carpet she should try Goo Gone?
Hi K., I hope you find this most helpful: my daughter decided to put "mousse" in her hair but it was a 1/2 tub of Vaseline. Dawn dish soap works great (Palmolive doesn't, I tried it 4 times before switching to Dawn). It is going to take several washes to get it out of the hair. Then their hair is going to be very stripped and dry, use conditioner only after all the rash cream is out. You can use the same for the carpet.
Oh boy, the fun of lil ones, lol. If the rash ointment is sticky at all, you may try to use some baby oil 1st, work it thru really well, then of course you'll need to follow that up w/a healthy dose of the dish liquid the other ladies mentioned. My kids are all grown now & boy did we have some messes, but I always found oil to be the best thing to lift sticky residues.
Obviously you can't use oil on the carpet, but if those other things don't work, try some ordinary Shout or Oxi-based laundry stain removers. I had to use it ALL the time before our 14 yr old doggy we just had to 'say good bye to' last week. He'd pee all over in the carpet & that stuff worked wonders! We already know how well those things work on our clothing. Oh, there's also 1 called 'Zout' it works really well too.
