Diaper Issue at Night

My 8 week old daughter is starting to sleep for longer periods at night. YIPPIE! Last night she slept for almost 5 1/2 hours at one time. I was so pleased and thankful to get a nice amount of sleep. However, when I went to get her after she woke, she was soaked. Her diaper had saturated during that time and leaked. We have been using the Huggies Newborns. She is a tiny little girl and the newborns are all that fits. The size 1 is way too big. I felt so bad for her as her entire pj outfit as well as the sheet were soaked. Do any of you have an idea of what we can do to prevent this? I want her to sleep for as long as she can but am now worried about her soaking herself if she goes longer than 3 hours.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

First of all, thank you to all of those who responded. The advice was very appreciated. We have switched to Pampers and also gone up a size. So far, so good. No leaks during the day or at night. She even slept 5 1/2 hours the other night with no issues!

My daughter (Now 1) still wears pampers swaddlers. We tried huggies and Loves, and Target brands and none worked! Go with the swaddlers!

Use doubled cloth diapers with rubber pants. They are old fashioned but effective, and much, much cheaper than any brand of disposables in the long run.

I haven't seen a difference between Huggies and Pampers in terms of quality or preventing blowouts. However, I've noticed that the Pampers run smaller than Huggies in the same size range. So, I use Pampers when my son is at the smaller end of a size range and Huggies when he is at the larger end of the range.

YOu might try a different kind of diaper. My favorites were the pampers brand. They seem to work the best in my experience. You could also try changing her after 3 hours or so. All babies are different but my daughter would always sleep through her diaper changes when she was young.

I did the same thing Rachel did...I bought the larger size at night too. You can really cinch down the waist on those to help too. We're Costco brand fans, before that it was Huggies, but each diaper fits differently. Its experimentation to find the right one.

I had this same problem and it didn't matter what brand I used. I ended up getting the next size up for night only. It did the trick with my boys, but I had them in snug pjs. I don't think it would work if they were loose. I've also seen someone suggest before, another time this question was posted, to put a menstrual pad inside the diaper. Seems to me it would work. Hope one of the suggestions works!

here is a different suggestion. put on her regular diaper and then over that you can put a bigger diaper or use rubber potty training pants. there are also those cloth diaPERS WITH VELCRO AND PROTECTIVE COVER ALREADY TOGETHTER SO ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS WASH THEM. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS

I would try and different one. I really like Pampers Swaddlers Newborn for my new babies but my babies are boys ;0) so it may not work as well for your little sweetie. I still use Pampers and haven't had any problems with them.

Congrats on the sleep-doesn't it feel good even if it were only 5 hours! Good luck

I'd try size ones, at least at night. In my experience, once the diapers start leaking at night, it's not very long before you need them during the day, too. I know the ones seems really big, but they do cinch down really well. GL! Enjoy your sleep.

Put her in bigger diapers at night. You can tighten them around the waist. My son did this alot and I found if I bought the next size up they worked great, able to absorb more liquid and they were big however they weren't so big they didn't fit. Try another brand too, funny as the Target brand diapers were my best bet. I bought the expensive Pampers for my first born, then on a budget with my second I did trial and error with a lot of brands. Target Brand diapers were the best for blowouts, just get the next size up.
Seeing she is 8 weeks, newborn diapers are probably not equipped or too small for her. You need to allow room for fillup at night and naptimes.
