Diaper Genie or NO Diaper Genie?

Hello! This is kind of funny that Im on my 3rd child and wondering about a diaper genie. With my 1st baby our house was really small, so it was easy just to throw the diapers outside in the trash. With my second, the house is much bigger, so I would just bring a target bag in his room for the day, and by the end of the day it was full so I would throw it outside, instead of walking all the way out to the trash everytime. I never wanted to mess with the diaper genie and having to buy the refills, but with having 3 kids, I wonder if it would help me out? Is it easy to use? I know the refills arent cheap. Im wondering if I should just get a regular little trash can and throw it out everyday. I just hope it wont smell funky. What do you think?

Just to clarify, by the time I have the baby (May) I REALLY hope I only have one in diapers! We are trying to potty train our 2 year old. Im just talking about the Genie for the newborns room because they poop and pee NONSTOP!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Haha! Thanks ladies! Looks like the diaper genie sucks! I will save my money and just use a little pail with scented liner! Thanks again!

We had one and it worked well. However, I really think a small trash can that gets emptied daily is a better choice.

OMG it is the biggest waste of money ever! They never work and you still smell alot. I just use one of those Hefty odor blocker bags and they work just as well as a Genie.
There are diaper pails that you can use your own trash bags and puts each diaper in it's own bag compartment like a Genie does. But all in all a can with a lid works just as well. The only thing that actually keeps the smell down in regularly taking out the bag.
One thing I do (I also cloth diaper) is I take a little squirt bottle with water and a couple drops of lavender and tea tree oil. Shake it up every time you spray it, and it's a natural deodorizer. I spray it every where in my sons room. I don't have to worry about chemicals that way. It's worth try. I like it a lot.

I hated the diaper genie. Everyone said I had to have it. When you had to empty it it looked like a long string of sausage links but it smelled much worse. YUCK! I left it on the curb for the goodwill truck. For my second I did similar to you but I used 1 bag per diaper. The bag is big enough to drop the diaper in, tie a knot and flip it around on itself to tie another knot (so it is like double bagged, sometimes you can triple). The I toss it in my normal kitchen trash that has a lid. Never had a problem. Never worried much about pee diapers, especially when they are young because mine didn't really smell. GL! and congratulations!

We had one for our first. HATED it! Sold it on a garage sale for like $4 (WITH a bunch of refills we had purchased!)

We LOVE our Diaper Decor'. Used it a ton with our 2nd. Now our 3rd is 5 months old and we haven't used it at all. I breastfeed so his diapers don't stink. We just use a regular garbage can with free plastic bags in it.....

I got a diaper genie as a baby shower gift for my first son and took it back to babies r us. I just used a garbage can with a lid...had it out on our deck, and after every dirty diaper just put it in the garbage can. Now, onto my third child (newborn) and I have a small trash can, with a lid, in my room that I put her diapers in. No smell, no mess, it gets emptied every couple of days. I paid $8 and never have to buy those "diaper genie bags". Seems like a better choice to me!

I couldn't afford a diaper genie... BUT my pail did get pretty rank... even after just one day's worth of diapers. I have started buying those little scented baggies at wal-mart to put the dirty ones in, and that works pretty well.

I had one and think they are a waste of money. It smelled really bad. I would just put diapers in a pail, or my kitchen garbage and make sure it got dumped by the end of the day. If it was a real doozy, I would put it outside.
