Yes! Get rid of the Diaper Genie! They are awful. I had one - I know. The best thing I found - and you will laugh - is grocery store plastic bags. Through out the offending article right away. And Lysol spray helps, too.

I had a diper genie with my first born and it never blocked the smell. Everyone I talked to say that it does not hold in odor well, even the local child care providers. Once I got rid of it, I just save some plastic grocery bags and (for the really stink diapers), put the diaper in the bag, tie it up tight, and throw that bag in the main trash bin of the house. It seems to work fine.

Same problem... I clean mine with Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner and it seems to help a lot. I haven't decided if we are going to use it for number 2 (due in June) or finish out #1 (2 1/2) and be done with the stinky thing!

I have found that after taking it apart, and cleaning it with bleach, that sitting it in the sun for half a day works great! Of course, I know sun can be in short supply right now. Good luck!

Yep, spraying w/lysol and cleaning w/bleach water are great ideas! That's what I did. I now just have a diaper pail. My mom suggested putting a dryer sheet at the bottom. It helps somewhat. Try putting one in the bottom of the diaper jeanie. Can't hurt! LOL!

I swear by using the antimicrobial Febreze...... it works as well as anyting!

Hi. I have had this same issue. I tried putting an air freshner in it and also dryer sheets. They helped but the smell was still bad. I finally gave up and started putting the diapers outside in the trash!

My suggestion is get rid of the diaper genie. We didn't use ours for long because we found ourselves refusing to empty it just because it smelled so bad. We just twisted them up in the countless walmart bags and would hang them on the door knob so when one of us went out the door so did the dirty diaper. Good Luck

ok it was years ago but i know the feeling, i kept a container of baking soda in the bottom of mine and it helped a lot, also clean the pail with bleach between bag changes. hope this helps

I know your pain. I just had to get rid of the Diaper Genie. It was awful! Now, when our baby has a dirty diaper, we just dump the dirty part into the potty, wrap up the mostly-empty diaper, and throw it in the trash outside with the Diaper Genie itself.

Problem solved.

Try some baking soda - it works on my kitchen trashcan - great in fridge too to absorb odors.

Honey!Just put diapers in trash rightaway.I tried wiping,spraying with lysol,washing it up but nothing works for long.If u have diaper genie in ur baby room,its not good for his health either.

I too struggle with not a genie, but a diaper champ. The odor knocks you out! I read somewhere that if you use the perfume sample pages from magazines and place them in the bottom of the pail, it will minimize the smell. I'm willing to try almost anything!!

if you have a cat, the diaper genie works pretty well for used cat litter. and the litter itself usually has something in it to mask odors. so, if you didnt want to get rid of it totally, theres an idea.
we never used one for our daughter either. it was just easier to use the trash can.
