Diaper Disposal Dilemma - Need a Decent Diaper Trash Can!
We need a decent diaper trash can for our 1 year olds diapers. We are just using a regular trash can right now and bagging the #2 diapers but now even the #1 diapers make me want to pass out when I open the can. I want a can that you don't have to wrap the diaper into a tight little ball before putting it in the little opening at the top. (I do wrap the diaper up to close it, I just don't want to have to fight and squeeze to get it in a small opening - if the opening is large enough that it doesn't have to wrapped carefully to make it fit and to be placed carefully then I am good) Need a can that can hold a decent amount of toddler diapers I don't want to have to change the bag ever two days. And I need a can that safe for a toddler!
The diaper genie 2? The Dekor? Any suggestions???

We have found that once you are dealing with diapers from a kid eating regular food, there is no getting around the fact that they are smelly. Any of the diaper pails work pretty well (We have used Diaper Decor and Diaper Genie 2), but they have to be emptied every couple of days b/c the smell is a reality.

We got a cheap garbage can with the step open lids. We put it on the back porch right next to the door. The smell was super contained both because of the lid and because of the cold weather (smelly bacteria grows in warm environments). Once a week, on garbage day, we just tied up the liner bag and tossed it in the can. I don't think any in-house garbage system can really keep that smell out of your house.

Hmm, this is probably not what you want to hear... but diapers smell and the only way to get rid of the smell is to empty the pail daily or every other day. They make those fancy twist pails (Diaper Genie), if your are willing to invest a fortune in the pail and the refills you may get 3-4 days out of them, but in my experience even they start smelling at some point.

i think any plastic trash can is going to absorb the smell. we had a diaper champ and no matter how many times we changed the bag or scrubbed the darn thing, it still stunk so i got rid of it. i bet you would do better with a metal with bags inside. of course if it's just the pee smell that's getting to you, and not the funky trash can, that might not help.

We love our DiaperDekor. We bought new, but told our friend about it and she found one for $10 on Craigslist. You don't have to touch anything and it keeps the smell away.

I have to agree with the other posts about just having to change it every two days. We use a small can, next to the changing table, and keep a grocery store sized plastic bag in it. It's easy to pull out, it's small enough that it fills in a couple days.
Diaper Genies are pricey when you factor in the bags that you have to refill. They still get stinky too.
You can always keep some baking soda on hand to sprinkle on top of the diapers when you put a new one in.

not sure why you think it takes a lot of time to wrap a diaper into a ball and put it in to a spot...that is probably the only thing that is going to work for you - of course any unwrapped diaper is going to smell...We have had the diaper champ (uses regular trash bags) for 4 years, are using it with our second child...never have had a problem with smell - change the bag 1 time a week (sometimes more, but not usually)
