Hi,
I was price shopping for diapers and noticed how much cheaper Luvs diapers and the store brand diapers at BJ's wholesale are. Has anyone used these? How are they? Do they leak?

What can I do next?

With my first child, I used only pampers, until I became pregnant with my 2nd child! Then I tried Luvs- they leaked for my son, but my nieces and nephews used them without problems. I finally settled on BJ's brand and only used those for my son's remaining diaper time and throughout for my daughter. We liked them a lot and they offer a lot of coupons on them. My son has ridiculously sensitive skin and he never had a rash with them! Good luck.

With my first son, I only used Pampers (what a snob I was!) With my second son, I was more money conscious and used Luvs as well as the Target brand diapers. Both worked just fine. I never had a BJs membership, so I can't speak about them.

My advice is to try them and see what works best (leaking, etc.)

Hi R.
I understand your issues with diaper prices now that they have gone up in some stores, and I know that you were doing some research on cheaper brands like luvs and bjs wholesale diaper.I know that I have issues with diaper prices and I have never really bought anything different for my son other than pampers because thats what he has used since he got home because they dont ever leak and thats what I look for when I find diapers, when I had ran out of diapers when he was little I had some from my baby shower and tried them all from huggies, to luvs, to even top care dipaers, and parents choice and I found that all they did was leak & are not really sturdy and made poorly & I couldnt keep changing my sons clothes every time his diaper leaked it was alot of laundy plus my son pees & poops alot soo I found pampers to be the only ones that worked for me and whats great about them they have differnt stages and types for all babies, now that my son is 1 pampers cruisers are the only diapers I will buy especially now that he is walking and moving they move with him soo thats a plus the cheaper diapers dont do that, thats why I buy pampers I care about how much im spending on diapers but pampers are the best diapers for us. I believe that it is your choice and what you think may be the best for your daughter and whats best for your spending situation.
Good Luck :)
Hope its work out for you

Hi R.,

With my first child, I tried a number of different brands. I can honestly say that LUVS was the best. It was the only one that didn't have a blow out or leak. I love that fact that they are alot cheaper than Pampers and others. I have been buying them for 8-9 years now being on my fourth child and would definitely recommend them highly. Good luck with your beautiful baby girl enjoy her. she will grow and change unbelievably fast.

We are first time parents too and tried the route of the cheaper diapers. We found it just wasn't working out, they leaked and we found we were going through more in a shorter time frame so it was averaging out the same price wise, but I change fewer diapers. Now that my daughter is older (2 and 1/2) we have found (expecially in the last few months) that it doesn't matter wich diaper because they are going less frequently. We are soon to be on out way out of the diaper buisness for a little while, as our big girl is using the potty....at home....hey, one step at a time. I'll take what I can get.
Good luck.

We have been using the BJ's brand diapers for our son for close to two years now we think they are great! Cheaper and more diapers for the money! Pampers are the all time best but expensive...we used them for our sons first 6 months after a brief bout of Huggies which are a waste of money since they leak like crazy. We have tryed Wal-mart and Toys R Us store brands as well and BJ's are best, wal-mart brand seemed to cause our son a rash, Toys r us were ok but leaked a little on the overnight oh and we even tryed the market basket brand and those where good lol! you just have to try it out every baby is so different what worked for one dont work for all!hope this helps you!

Hi R.,
I LUV LUVS.....they are much cheaper and never leak. I've used them for both my kids, currently I have a 5 yr and a 1yr old. You can't beat the value. I've even used store brands here and there and some of those work well. However, I didn't have good luck w/ the BJ's brand 5 yrs ago, unless they've improved. Good luck : )

I love the Luvs diapers! They are great and if you sign up on their website, you will get coupons emailed to you (though most are only good at Target, but it is still worth it!) I don't like the BJ's brand at all. They are really wide between the legs and don't seem to be comfortable at all! I also find that they have a tendancy to leak. Hope this helps! I am on my 3rd baby in diapers and have tried just about all the brands!!!

I haven't bought the name brand diapers since we ran out of the pampers the hospital sent us home with! I always buy the store brand because they're just gonna poop in 'em right? I even look for better bargans like BOGOs on store brands. The last time I bought diapers I got Walgreens brand for 7.99 a pack! I found these to be the best store brand so far. Target's are okay and so are CVS. Actually the worst ones so far were Huggies. They just feel like paper. I have never had any of these diapers leak though. Maybe when she starts really crawling around I might have to splurge, but in the mean time I'm going cheap!

R.,

After seeing all the great responses to Luvs, there isn't much to say, I used them with both my kids and loved them. FYI - Luvs is manufactured by Proctor & Gamble, the same company that manufactures Pampers, so they are essentially the same diaper with a different look and price-point.

I also agree about the wipes, go for the Pampers or Huggies brands, don't go store brand or cheapest, trust me, it's worth it.
Good luck!

You just need to buy a small pack and try it first. I had one child whose body shape was such that only the premium, most expensive diapers would not leak. For my other child, the expensive ones leaked and only the generic ones fit her right. Hope the cheap ones fit, because they pretty much all hold the contents fine if they fit.

I used to buy Luvs for at night because they work just as good as the other more expenise brands for a lot less. But I used to use the Walmart brand for during the day. They are even cheaper than the Luvs and because you change the diapers more frequently during the day I didn't have leak issues. The only issues I remember having was when she pooped out the top back of the diaper...so gross, but that will happen no matter what brand you use!!! I had priced all the diapers around and Walmart were the cheapest per diaper. I calculated total price by how many diapers in each box to give me the most accurate price per diaper.

I just started using the BJ's brand for my 7 month old son and love them. As others said though, it is trial and error for what fits your kid. For a shower gift we received Luvs in sizes 1-5. I hated them when he was a newborn - leaked every single time. I didn't use them again until size 3, and found they worked great. BJ's are even cheaper though, so I would say give them a try.

I use the BJ's brand of diapers without a problem. I love them because they are so much cheaper and I don't have any leakage problems. I do not like Luvs because they are scented. My baby would rash every time I put her in them because of the scent (and she doesn't have extra sensitive skin). Good luck with your choice.

i started using the luvs for my daughter earlier this year. they work great. the price is good, as you know, and bjs sends out the booklet of coupons and atleast once a month there is a $5.00 coupon for the luvs. it really does save and i only have to use 1 case per month. i don't use them when she goes to bed only because she sleeps for 12 hours and pees a lot so i use an overnight for her. one of my best friends also used them for her daughter. that is partly why i switched also. good luck. ~K. ps. i would not recommend the luv wipes though. i don't find them thick enough for my liking.

Hi R.,
I am a huggies mom all the way.. but once I saw that the price of Huggies went up to almost 40 bucks at BJ's, I decided I would save some money.. I used them for about 4 months..with my 2 children ages 1.5 and 2.5.. I thought they were ok.. but I noticed that they were very saggy.. and soggy.. I would think they dumped a gallon of water in them because of the sagginess but it turned out they only went a little.. I am a little bit of a freak when it comes to saggy soggy diapers.. LOL.. So last month I went back to huggies.. I saved 40 dollars during that 4 months but I went through them so much faster.. Anyway.. that is just my opinion.. you might want to try them to save some money.. I think that in order for you to truly favor one over the other, you should try them all.. LOL.. Hope it works out for you!

I used Pampers Swaddlers and loved them for my daughter for the first 7 months. I decided to try Luvs because of the price, I purchased a small package at Target (6.99) and they worked great. I get them at BJ's now and use the coupons in the coupon books - only buy about 1 case a month and I think they are just as good or better than the pampers Baby Dry. No leaks for my 11 month old daughter who is VERY active!

But I do have friends who swear by the Luv's so I think it depends on your baby.

R., let me start by saying I bought Luvs once --- and that was it!!! I found they leaked terrible despite what their comercials claim!! never again!! I have always been a Huggie user (2 in diapers at the same time) though I currently bought a case of the Costco - Kirkland brand, they're great!! Maybe BJ's brand will be similar?? I found that the cheaper the diaper, either they leaked or the tabs were awful (hard plastic that stuck into babies belly when they bent over, or not sticky enough). ?? Some really love the luvs?? your best bet is to clip a store coupon and try a small package, if you don't like them just tuck them into the diaper bag/closet as "emergency" spares and you'll know if they are for you and your baby. good luck!! We use luves for our two kids and have had the same luck with leaks and such as with pampers cruisers. From what I understand Pampers makes luvs. We have never had any bad rashes or anything. I have found, however, that when the kids start to leak -- despite what the weight limits on the packages say-- I need to bump them up a size and the leaks stop. This was also true for the pampers diapers.

We primarily use Pampers. I use the gifts to grow point program they offer on their diapers to earn things, I can use BJ's coupon and manufacturer coupon when we purchase them at BJ's.
I tried Huggies and they are not bad. We do use the overnights after 2 yrs of age and they work fabulously!!
We have tried CVS brand as tehy were recommended and they worked great, except at nighttime for us. (My son is a heavt pee'er at night - even with cut back son drinks...we will see with my daughter...)
We never tried LUVS but they were recommended to us as they are cheaper.
Sign up on each of the websites and they will send you some single diapers and you can give them a try as well as get some coupons.
We tried target brand and we did not like them at all. We tried BJ's brand and did not care for them as we did Pampers.

I agree that until you try a brand, you won't know what works for you and your little one (as I'm sure you can ascertain from the plethora of mixed responses). I'm a Mom of a 10 month old girl, and interestingly enough, our daycare provides Luvs for $15 per month. I was hesitant at first b/c we use Pampers and really like them (one leak and one minor diaper rash thus far). But for $15 a month, I thought I'd give them a try. I think Luvs are okay for daycare; they change them at a minimum every 2 hours and/or when necessary. However, we continue to use Pampers for night time (when we try not to change her at all b/c it wakes her). On a side note, I didn't like Huggies at all. Best of luck!

Hi R. -
I used the CVS brand diapers for both my kids. I never had issues with leaks. Occasionally when the my kids were getting bigger and could still fit in a size 3, at night I would go a size higer to a size 4 and never had night time leaks.

I think a lot also has to do with how well the diaper is on, we did the "butterfly", after we put the diaper under their bum, we spread there legs into what we called the butterfly, and then pulled it up to latch it. It definately was a lot snugger than if it wasnt done that way. Although, my kids also were not squirmers, so if you have a squirmer... I guess as long as you get it on! But we started the "butterfly" very early, and as they got older all we had to say was butterfly and then they would open their legs to get the diaper on.

good luck!

I used Luv's with both my boys. I loved them, I didn't see any difference between them and pampers except the cost.

We tried Luvs with my daughter and hated them--major leaks and poop everywhere! So bad that we gave the rest of the package away. I thought I'd try them again with my son to see if male/female anatomy made any difference and it doesn't. Two days in a row he had poopy leak out--so much so that it looked like I forgot to put a diaper on...poop all over everything! To me, not worth it to save a little money, even in this economy. I just use coupons and shop at BJs to make it cost less.

I did not like Luvs, my son was very chubby (baby fat) and I found that they leak especially at night. He is now 3 and has thinned out, but I still use either pampers crusiers, pampers dry or huggies. I always buy my diapers at BJ's I think this is the best deal and I always watch for the coupons and then I will buy which ever of these 3 brands that I get a coupon for. When you recieve the coupon pack in the mail they always seem to rotate which brands that they give coupons for. I hope this helps, I have found that this is a personal choice

They work great for my daughter--she has leaked through the more expensive brands (huggies & pampers), but she never has leaked through luvs.

Hi R.,

My three children each grew up in Luvs. I tried them all and found that Luvs worked as well as any other brand but cost much less. The store brands worked at certain stages but inevitably leaked as the child grew. Good luck!

I use Pampers. I tried Luvs several times but continued to get leaks, every morning my son was soaked. When I took the diapers off him and tried to wrap it up to throw away, it acted like a wet sponge and sent pee everywhere. Yuck. I do not recommend them. I used cloth diapers until my son was a year old, and supplemented with Seventh Generation. But if you are trying to save money, getting Pampers at BJs is the best way to get a quality diaper and save. They send out coupons, so I never go in without at least a $5 off coupon for the BJs Pampers. Good Luck!

We used Pampers with my first and Huggies with my twins, and found no difference between the two. I would say, go for the cheaper diapers. We did find a real difference between the huggies wipes and the cheaper ones. I wouldn't scrimp there!

Hi R., I have 3 kids my youngest is 15 mos and I would most definitely use the store brand. They are much cheaper and I find they work just as well. My favorites is the Wal-mart brand of Parents choice. They are the cheapest out there and work good.

I tried them for my daughter, and my sister-in -law tried them for my niece and both leaked terribly. However, my sister -in -law is currently using them for my nephew and they are working out fine. In general I think they are good for boys, not so good for girls.

I don't know about Bj's store brand but Costco's worked pretty good for my nephew. Luv's leaked when I tried them. Pampers fit my kid best and worked the best. You can also sign up for coupons on their website. Babies are us has cheap prices on Diapers too. The only problem is you see all the other stuff in there and end up spending more than you would if you bought the diapers somewhere else. LOL
