Diaper Bag Recommendations - West Hills,CA

Good Morning Mama's!

I'm wondering if you can provide any diaper bag recommendations. With our first, we purchased an Eddie Bauer duffle style diaper bag and while it was good and unisex so my husband would carry it, it was huge and awkward to carry! While I'd love a cutsie bag, for practical reasons I'm hoping to find one that's gender neutral so my husband will feel comfortable toting it around as well. We like the idea of a backpack style, but I'd like to ensure the bag can go over the stroller back. I'm open to any and all suggestions even if they aren't the backpack design!

What can I do next?

For my first, I bought a back-pack style diaper bag and thought it worked out great. We didn't use a stroller so it was nice to have it on my back and not slung on my shoulder. For #2, I switched to just a regular back-pack as I found the diaper bag too bulky (it was padded all around) once filled with stuff for two kids. Again, we didn't use a stroller so back-pack worked best. And I'll continue with #3. The back-pack I have is light-weight, has large, medium and small sections and two mesh pockets on the sides on the outside. I use the small section as my purse, mesh pockets to carry phone, sun glasses and keys, medium pocket for snacks and toys and large section for diapers, wipes and change of clothes. Hope this helps.

I started with a backpack --Columbia Trekster Diaper Bag (Navy & Silver)--but I found it awkward finding what I needed in it, esp at changing stations, and I guess I wanted to be overprepared and so it got too full... it's a nice small size though. I switched to a messenger bag--
OiOi Messenger Bag (grey circles on black, w/lime green lining)-- so I could hang it on the stroller and find what I needed quickly. I really like it. Both bags are gender neutral (not "manly", but neutral ;-)

I would say it depends how you will use it... I don't use it much to carry around--If I'm shopping I leave it in the car and keep an emergency diaper/wipes in my purse. If I go to the zoo or something, it gets stashed in the stroller. At restaurants, I stash her bib and food in my purse so I don't have to carry around an extra bag.

My good friend uses a regular Jansport backpack and that works great for her and hubby--they are pretty active people.

We have always used a backpack made for surfers. We bought a real nice one with lots of compartments. Surfing backpacks always come with a wet/dry pouch, which although meant for wetsuits, is great for parents with babies and young children. These backpacks are extremely sturdy, we have had ours for 6 years now and it's still in amazing condition!
You can buy them online at various sites, at surf shops, and at "fake" surf shops like Tilly's. There are so many brands...ours is Hurley, and there is Billabong, DaKine, etc.
We take ours everywhere still and it will be our diaper bag again for baby #3 in May! :)

Hi A.,
I have the Skip Hop messenger bag. It comes in a variety of colors/patterns. It has two handles, a detatchable shoulder strap, and two buckles on the side to strap it around the stroller handles. I like it just fine, but it's not ideal.
1. It's pretty deep, which is great when I want to bring everything but the kitchen sink, but makes it difficult to find stuff (like the granola bar I KNOW is in there... somewhere).
2. I was SO excited to put it over the stroller handles, but it ends up swinging against the stroller and taking up room where baby's head is supposed to lay. So that part of it only really works well when my son is sitting up more in the stroller. I think this might be a stroller issue (since it obviously depends on how far out your handles are), but suffice it to say that I've used it that way maybe twice.

What I usually end up doing is throwing a burp cloth, diaper, plastic bag, and wipes into my purse and leaving the big diaper bag in the car for real emergencies.

has some cool ones.

Also, Land of Nod, has some that are even waterproof.

Good Morning A.! I was compelled to respond to you because of the trouble I went through to find MY perfect diaper bag. I have a 2 yr old son with a little girl due in April. I went through 3-4 different diaper bags before I found the perfect one for me. It's the JJ Cole System Diaper Bag. I absolutley love it! It's a messenger style bag thats perfect for hubby too! It has a seperate little pouch for a couple of diapers and a travel wipe case that when opened up completely is a changing pad as well! It can go into the diaper bag, clip to the outside or can be used alone for quick trips. It has its matching pacifier kepper too! I love this system, it worked perfect for my busy lifestyle and would definately recommend it to everyone who want to be organized and wants plenty of compartments for all your needs. Here's a link http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2539401 Like I said, I went through 3-4 different styles before falling instantly in love with this one! Good luck and happy shopping! :D ~G.
