I am planning a trip to Destin with a family of 5- two under 2 years. Want a condo off beach at a good price. What is a good place to rent and ideal month to go? We are driving too- how long will the drive take?

What can I do next?

Funny you should ask We just returned from Destin Last night! It was beautiful!!! Best time to go is after July 4th the crowds are starting to die down a little. As for the trip if you travel at night while the kids are sleeping it is only about a 12 hour trip. We go every summer My father in law has a place there so I can't really help with the condo info. You should be able to find anything you want. If you are looking for a little less expensive you should look in Okaloosa It is just north of Destin and a lot cheaper. By north I mean just over the bridge not far at all! Have fun!!

Hi A.,
Although we didn't stay at the "Inn at Crystal Beach",
my husband and I drove around one day checking out some of the nicer condos on the beach in hopes of finding a nicer condo for our family trip NEXT year!

We stayed at the Sheraton-Four Points Hotel. Although is was OK, it was nothing to boast about. The building is old, and even though it has gone through some "remodeling/renovations" it's still a "little rough around the edges". I wouldn't stay there again. :(

Here's just a few of the places we LIKED...
"Inn at Crystal Beach"
Dale E Peterson Vacation Properties
2996 Scenic Hwy 98

CRYSTAL DUNES:

Another great place was "Waterscape" on Ft. Walton Beach. It's setup more as a resort/condo place. We stopped by this place on a Saturday night and they were playing "Finding Nemo" on a big blow-up TV screen by the pool! There were kids watching the show while hanging out on floats, while the parents were chatting with friends/family on the patio chairs/tables nearby! BTW, This place also has a LAZY RIVER! :)

FAMILY-FRIENDLY was "Waterscape" on Ft. Walton Beach:
(1-3 bedroom condos)

*TIP: Make sure you get a condo/hotel ON the beach!!!
It's easier to tote your/kid's stuff around if your find a condo/hotel on the beach, especially with the LITLE ONES! :)

Kid friendly place to eat - "CRAB TRAP":
"Crab Trap" - Backs up to the beach and there's a
play area/jungle gym set for the kids to play on!

Sorry for the long response, but I thought I'd share some of our experiences! Good luck and if you have any questions/concerns just email me via Mamasource.

Take care,

A.,
I just spent last week there with my family. It is their peek time right now. I think the prices drop sometime in August. Just google places to stay in Destin. My sister made all the arrangments, so I am not sure who she went through. The drive is a 12 1/2 hour drive. We usually stop in Jackson, MS and spend the night and then drive the rest of the way the next day. You will have a blast.

Ok, go to resortquest.com. It will ask for state and city. We stayed on Scenic Old 98, in a house. We had a community pool and the beach was right across the street.

We just went to Destin a week ago, but we stayed at the Holiday Inn off the beach. Next time we'll stay somewhere nicer.

Dallas to Destin is about 11 hours or longer if you stop like we did. It's a great place! Have fun! Oh, and eat at The Back Porch restaurant. Good food...great king crab legs.

Hi A.,

How fun! I'm thinking of taking our family there next summer. We've never been. I know someone who has been twice and both times she used Vacation Rentals By Owner to find a place to stay and both times they have been awesome. The site is www.vrbo.com

Good luck and have fun!
