Depo Provera
Hello,
I just had my postpartum check up yesterday, and since I want to wait at least 6 months before trying to get pregnant again, I decided to get the depo shot. (We had twin boys that were born in Oct. and they didn't make it, as they were born too early.) I was on this before, and I really liked it, however my hubby and I were not planning on having anymore kids for at least another two years. Sooooo, I don't know how easy it is to get pregnant after having been on this birth control. My Dr. said it can take months. What I want to know is: has anyone been on this BC shot, and then tried to get prego? How long did it take? I know that everyone's different, but I'd kinda like to get somewhat of an idea about how long it takes. When I was on it before, it took 8 months for my period to come back after my last shot had worn off. Any info offered would be great! Thanks ladies.
K.

If you for sure (and your husband agrees) that you will try to have more children.. I would ask your doctor about whether this would be a good choice. Ask him all these questions and more.. how long does the drug take to get out of your system so that it won't affect the baby if you get pregnant again... that kind of thing.
best wishes and my condolences on the loss of your beautiful little boys.

Maybe consider an IUD? I don't have any problems with mine (Mirena). Good luck!

I just wanted to say sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I don't know anything about this shot, but I think your best bet is truly a specialist in the area. Speak with your OB/gyno as they will give you the most educated and reliable response. Everybody's body is different and whereas it may take one woman 8 months it may take another longer or shorter. Good luck!

I was on depo before I had my son. Almost immediately after my last shot wore off, I started bleeding and continued for almost a month. My doc put me on BC pills for 2 months to stop the bleeding and try to regulate me. After I went off the pills, I was pregnant almost immediately. All together, conception was about 6 months from the date of my last shot. You should probably ask your doc about the type of BC they recommend if you want to get pregnant that quickly again, but I'd guess either condoms, or pills would be the best bet. If you already had your first shot, perhaps when it is time for the next one, switching to pills??? Your doctor can probably give you the best advice. Everyone's body handles birth control differently. Good luck in your decision.

I actually have heard from 2 people that they got pregnant while on the depo shot! I think for most people it is pretty reliable but it just depends on your body how quickly things get back to normal. I was on BC pills for years, and when I got married I went off them and it took me 10 months to get pregnant. With my 3rd, I was off BC pills for 3 months, and I am now 8 weeks pregnant! It just really depends on you and your body. Not sure if I was much help :P
Good luck!

i did the depo and it was a year after that I got prego but we were using other forms of protection until then I have known quit a few women who were on the depo and got pregnant as soon as it wore off and they had been on it for years all in all it really depends on your body so you may not want to get a second shot if you want to get prego in six months.
