My daughter just had her first gymnastics class and I for the first time noticed she had pretty bad bo. Isn't this pretty young to have? Is there a safe deodorant she can use??

What can I do next?

My daughter starting using deodorant very early and was told by her doctor to try Tom's. You can find it at Target, it a little more expensive than the basic stuff, but it doesn't have all the chemicals

inatest that made her itch and breakout .

Not too young. My daughter uses mens aluminum free deodorant. The natural stuff isn't strong enough for her.

Why isn't the deodorant you use "safe" ??? Once my kids were past the infant stage they used all the same toiletries as my husband and I, shampoo, soap, lotion, sunscreen, etc. Just let her use yours. We use Toms of Maine around here, the whole family, without a problem.

They say that the aluminum in deodorant increases the chances of breast cancer... Though this is one of those things that hasn't been conclusively proven and is rejected by the medical community.

Personally, I'm not too worried about it for myself. But, when it comes to my daughter I tend to err on the side of caution. (Not obsessively though. Lol.) I would just see if you can find a decent organic/toxin-free deodorant. If they are out of your price range, you could go with a natural remedy like using coconut oil (I have an adult friend who just uses her fingers to smear a bit in her armpits, and she says it works great.) you could also smear a baking soda/water paste, or look online (I'm pretty sure Pinterest would be a good place...) to find some homemade deodorant recipes.

My oldest started getting a little stinky at that age. Whatever deodorant you normally buy is fine. My daughter (now 12) uses Secret, and basically chooses it by which scent she likes best. Also, an anti-bacterial soap in the shower will help.

my daughters use a degree made for girls. They are 6 and 9. My 6 year old runs hot. She is always warm and gets sweaty quickly. When the sweat gets trapped and dries and you heat up again it gets stinky. Even happens in babies. Depending on where your body chemistry is at (age) and what you have been eating the odor can vary (scentwise). My 6 year old is mildly self conscious about her sweating issue and feels a little more confident when she has her deoderant. She does not wear it everyday but she does when it is hotter and when she will be active (sports practice). The aluminum and breast cancer myth has been debunked. She should be fine. If you are concerned you can start with absorbent powder. BUt showering regularly is most important. Even if we get home late from a tournament my little one likes to shower before bed really quick. And yes we have had doc check her out and she is fine. She just has a really high metabolism.

I would imagine all deodorant is fine for all ages. I can't imagine it hurting anyone.

Yep, you could find nearly the exact question if you look into my history. I freaked out a little (I knew it was coming, but she was SEVEN!) I buy her Toms, and just say "Dude, put this on, you smell" She groans and does it :) In an effort to explain how normal this was, we wound up having 'the talk' as well...puberty and what it's all about. She's mature, the talk was frank but I was determined to answer any q's she had honestly. I wanted her to know it was normal. and expected- nothing to be ashamed or worried about. Good luck, and you're not alone in this!

She is normal. The age when a child starts to need a deodorant varies widely. Forget age and use the smell test. I would buy her a natural one and teach her to use it after each bath/shower. Be matter of fact about it.

Tell her not to sniff it and it should be fine. Even I, hold me breath when I use spray antiperspirant or deodorant.

Most of the time I use the "Secret" Brand, "Clinical strength clear deodorant". Follow the directions. You use it at night after you shower or bathe. It works really well, and I live where today it is almost a 100 with over 70% humidity.

i would stay away from the aluminum-based pore-clogging stuff. get a good crystal stone deodorant, and don't worry about anti-perspirants just yet. you may have to try a few brands to find one that works and that she likes. let her in on the selection process.

I noticed this a week and a half ago with my 7 year old daughter. She came home from school and had her school shirt off but had her white undershirt on. I smelled something that smell like someone who didn't put deodorant on. I made her lift her arm and sure enough it was her. I checked her older sister who's 8 and the same thing. I know it's probably time for them to wear something that way they wouldn't stink. I didn't want them to wear deodorant that has chemicals. Found this kind.... www.jvdeodorant.com
they got the kind that smells like cherry. :)

First and foremost, I recommend that you do a little detective work and be sure that she is washing and rinsing properly when she showers. I went through the same thing with my boys and found out that they were rushing through their showers, not soaping and scrubbing well, and sometimes they'd not shampoo their hair! Once I got them back on track, the BO problem lessened considerably.

At about age 10 I noticed that T would get stinky feet and some BO. So I bought him foot powder, deodorant and instructed him on how to use it after showers. I also talked to him about changing socks and laundering his clothes. I don't know about your kids, but mine will try to wear their favorite shirt over and over. Be sure your daughter's leo is being washed and dried well.

This normal. Kids run around and play then they get sweaty. You can use any deoderent, but I wouldn't suggest using one of the gel ones until she gets a little older
