Dental Filling During Pregnancy

I had a metal dental filling drilled on and replaced when I was 7 months pregnant in January, and within two weeks I was hospitalized with what the neurologist informed me was an MS attack. I began slurring my words and had weakness in my left hand and left leg. The symptoms were treated with steroids and went away and I gave birth to my son in March. Now I'm concerned that I have exposed myself and my son to mercury and would like advice on ways I might go about finding out if I have, and what precautions to take or ways to detox my system and my son's system. I am particularly concerned about vaccinating my son before I know more about what the dental filling drilling may have exposed us to. As far as I am aware, I never had an MS attack before this incident.

What can I do next?

Good for you for thinking outside the box. There are so many people who wouldn't make the connection between MS symptoms and mercury poisoning.

My Mom had MS and I did extensive research into the potential causes about 7 years ago and found that mercury is a neurotoxin. Unfortunately my Mom had a great deal of mercury in her mouth and the cost to remove it would have been astronomical for her so she chose to leave it in. I have heard cases when people remove the mercury fillings their chronic immune system issues start to diminish, but not immediately.

Ok, with that said, it is not as easy as just taking them out of the mouth and all is well. Like you said, the mercury may have gotten into your system and that of your sons.

There are natural chelating agents that may be able assist the body in clearing the mercury out but I didn't find it as effective as doing a Master Cleanse and using essential oils. You can do research on the web on how to do a master cleanse. I have done several cleanses over my life and this was the most challenging, but definitely what I needed to get on the road to feeling better. I was advised by a chiropractor that this type of clease is the only one she knows of that cleanses heavy metals from the body.

But I will put a caveat here, this type of cleanse is not for the timid because there is no food, only a drink made from lemons and you don't feel very good for the first few days. Into the third day I felt great.

In regards to how to get any mercury out of your son's body I would suggest getting a book called Essential Desk Reference. It is a great reference for how to use essential oils safely to cleanse the body. I have used the oils referred to in the book safely on my son and many of my clients have used them on their very young babies. (I teach seminars on using essential oils, you can take a peek at www.SweetSmellofHealth.com)

Regarding your son, you are very wise to be concerned about the vaccines. There may still be some vaccines that have thymerserol (mercury derived preservative). Do your homework as to the type of vaccine (lot number as well) before they are given to your son. Some vaccines may be thymerserol free.

When I was considering the vaccine issue when my son I read a very good book title "Immunization: The Reality behind the Myth" by Walene James with a forward written by Robert Mendelsohn, MD. I liked the research presented it helped me make my own decision and that it wasn't over the type hypey. It went vaccine by vaccine and demonstrated the risks and then I could decide which ones I wanted to vaccinate my son against. I personally chose not to vaccinate him, instead I chose to do things naturally to protect his immune system. He is now 12 1/2 and has excellent health. When he was 4 he developed severe allergies and at that time I wondered if I had vaccinated him would he had been a statistic, one of the children who had a severe reaction or worse yet developed autism.

Vaccines are a subject that is very important to go into with both eyes wide open and weigh up the pros and cons and the risks by vaccinating and the risks not vaccinating.

I hope that helps. Good luck.

best regards,

M.

Your dentist should have used a rubber dam (a plastic shield) to be placed over your tooth to prevent the mercury from entering your body.
My doctor David Allen MD ###-###-#### does chelation therapy which would help detox your body from mercury. your son can be tested with a hair analysis. Also check out www.sb3.com they have great natural products I(transdermal cream)for chelation, MS and autism.
Be well,

They can do blood testing or hair testing if your little guy has enough.
I would find a homeopathic doctor in your area!
Good luck and best wishes,

You are right to be concerned. I wouldn't vaccinate until you have a handle on this (if you choose to vaccinate at all). As far as detoxing your system is concerned, look at a website called mercola.com. Dr. Mercola has a whole chelation regimen, although, personally, I would want to do this under supervision. There must be someone locally who does this. Dr. Jay Gordon in Santa Monica maybe.

Hi V.,

I have a great product that removes toxic metals from you body. It's all natural and really helps people. Most diseases and illnesses are caused due to toxins, and if you remove them you feel soooo much better! Mercury is so very toxic to your system and can cause lots of health issues. Feel free to contact me and I can give you more information.

Dear V.,
Amalgams are the metals used for dental filling. Although they do contain mercury it combines with other metals and this renders stable and safe for use in filling teeth. I do not think you need to be concerned with with the mercury. See http://www.ada.org/public/topics/fillings.asp

I would be more concerned about the steroids used to treat your MS. But I am sure that it was necessary to do because of the Multiple Sclerosis. I am sorry to hear that you have received that diagnosis and pray that it will be a long time in remission. As you probably know MS has genetic predisposition http://www.umm.edu/patiented/articles/what_causes_multipl...
The pregnancy not the dental drilling may be the trigger of the onset.
My prayers will be with you as you face this disease. I have a good friend who has had it for years. She was a teacher and continued to teach until almost retirement age.
God bless you and you new son.

It seems that although they were closely related in time frame that it restrict your cause to that flling would be putting yourself at risk for not finding the real cause. Do you know that your symptoms are mercury related?

Check with the poison control center and go to the library or online to look at mercury. Was the filling mercury for sure?

Get more info, make sure you don't rule out what could be there.

Dear V.,
I am sorry to hear about the MS diagnosis. You would be at the late end of the typical age for this disease to manifest. My brother got MS at age 40 and we have gone through a lot together because of it (and not all of it has been bad). I do know that a scan of the brain will show definitively if there is white matter damage in your brain which is a clear diagnosis of MS. If they have done this, I would assume the diagnosis is correct. Did you by chance have a bad cold or flu before the onset of the MS? In my brother's case, a flu was believed to be the trigger, but who knows- a mercury filling might set something off in a sensitive system. The next step would be to decide how you want to deal with it. I do think you are wise to consider clearing your system of any toxins, so your body can better deal with the MS. My husband and I are not vaccinating our son for this and some other tendencies (including autism) in his family. If you would like any more info from my experience with my brother, feel free to email me.
Blessings,
S.
