Not again! Now my son is showing signs of diabetes! He is urinating very often and wakes up complaining of a try mouth and sore throat. He is tired all of the time and after he eats he doesnt feel good. And i hav noticed at soccer he cant stay in as long as usual. He had a blood test about six months ago around the same time as his sis and had his urine examined about 3 months ago. But everything has gotten worse the sleepyness and sickness has come on in the past few weeks but the frequent urination and thirst has lasted two years. Right now he has what appears to be an ordinary cold but i think it is linked to his symptoms and has now been saying his lips are numb and painful. Is it possible that it was too early when he got the blood/urine test and that he has it because i am perplexed.
I know you cant give me a diagnosis the input and having my questions answered from other moms is helpful!
Please and thanks :)

E.,
I'm sorry you're going through this. Even if the earlier blood tests were negative, I would continue to explore this issue with the doctor or get a second opinion.
Good luck!

Calm down and stop diagnosing your children when his blood tests are fine. All your posts sound a bit hypochondriacal. Try cutting way down on salt and feeding a healthier diet. Maybe your kids will be less thirsty and have more energy. Do not with hold water, though. His cold could just be a cold and his lips could hurt because they get chapped when one has a cold. He has a dry mouth and a sore throat because he is breathing through his mouth and he has a COLD. Get him to bed earlier and maybe he won't be so tired. Sorry to sound harsh but you are probably scaring your kids half to death.

Only a doctor can tell you if something is wrong health wise. Did the doctor test for diabetes 6 mos and 3 mos ago? Blood and urine tests do not necessarily cover all possibilities. I urge you to take him to see the doctor.

Diet is VERY important. Take him back to the doctor and have a complete physical done - to include blood and urine to find out if he is diabetic.

Also weight. Is he eating right? Is he getting enough water? is he getting enough sleep?

The biggest sign of Diabetes in children is to smell their breath while they are sleeping - if it smells REALLY sweet - it's POSSIBLE that he has diabetes..the only way to know for sure is a blood test and it will be a fasting blood test (that means NO foods for 8 hours prior to the test).

When he had his blood tests six months ago - what were the results? If they were within normal range - then it has NOTHING to do with being too early to test - this isn't pregnancy - this is a bodily organ not functioning properly.

The reason people say it sounds like you have Munchausen By Proxy because all of your posts so far have been "health related" and most of them your children.

Here's a quiz for you to take.

I'm sorry, E.. Your concerns are valid. You do need to get your son to the doctor for more tests.

Some parents just ignore when their kids are sick. You don't and are trying to figure it out. We can make ourselves crazy trying to stab in the dark at diagnoses, so I don't recommend that.

It's perfectly fine by me if you ask health related questions here. However, since you have some, well, detractors who don't like your questions, open up a different account under a different name and throw in an "Am I pregnant" question once in a while or "How often do you clean your closet out" question to break up your subjects. Instead of getting biased remarks, you'll get answers to your questions.

I've never heard of painful or numb lips due to diabetes. Another important reason to get to the doctor.

I do want to say that you need to make your kids go to school even when they aren't feeling good. My kids always knew that the only way they got to stay home was if they were throwing up or if they had a fever. Period. And there was no TV or computer time if they were home sick. Sick days were boring days. I did that because I never wanted to "reward" them for being sick.

Another thing I want to advise is not to let your children see you worry too much about them. If they think that you feel that something awful is wrong with them, they can actually get more symptoms. You can care as much as any mother, but put a damper on how much you show it. "Mom, my lips are numb and they hurt and I don't feel good." "I'm sorry about that son. You can go to bed and rest as soon as your homework is done. How far did you get on your essay?" Save the rest for talking to your husband or the doctor.

I wonder if perhaps your son has a mild strain of mono. I always thought that mono was easily diagnosed by a blood test, but evidently, only if it's a roaring case. (Mine was a roaring case LOL!) When you take him in, ask the doctor to test him for it.

One last thing. Ask the nurse to put you in the doctor's office to talk to him or her while your son is in the examining room. You don't want to voice all your fears in front of your son. Take notes in with you so that you don't forget the points you want to make, and then you don't have to worry about your son feeding off your fears.

Good luck,
Dawn

Don't think you have to worry about diabetes a child undiagnosed will lose massive amounts of weight and look terribly sick. Thirsty does not quite cover it. It is beyond thirsty. Been there done it twice. Go back to paediatrician.

Take him to see a doctor. Print out this post and give it to the doctor.
If your children are as sick as you say, and your doctor cannot find anything wrong with them, take yourself to a doctor and give them copies of your posts.
I too am perplexed.
