Deciding on a New Bed for 4-Year Old

When my oldest was 18 months old, we moved to a new house and got him a racecar toddler bed which he's loved. Now he's 4 1/2, and we are in the process of moving into another house (right now we're repainting the rooms, stripping out carpet for wood, etc) but we've bought a great bunkbed with the desk, dresser, and shelves combined. When we're all done and moved into the new home, he'll have the bunkbeds (twin) to go in his new cowboy room, and my 17 month old (he'll be 18 months by the time we're moved in all the way) will inherit the toddler bed.

We just moved my son into a full sized futon. No, we aren't extravagant: I already had the frame, just needed a new mattress. We are *thrilled* he's now sleeping in his own room. I like, too, that he'll be able to use it for a long time (we'll have it restuffed in his teens).

Skip the toddler bed and just get a twin. We only have one kid but we got her a bunk bed because her room is fairly small and when you can't spread out, you spread up. She uses the top bunk for all her stuffed animals and some other toys. It's pretty much storage. She loves going up there with her leapfrog book to "read" it while buried in a mound of stuffed toys.

When she isn't in my bed, my four year old has a full size/double bed. It is used as a guest bed when needed.

When my 3 year old turns 4 we are going to use his crib again (convertable) and turn it into a full. He is still in a toddler bed now.

Twin. We're giving our daughters new twin beds for their 4th birthday. I was fine with them in toddler beds at age 3, but they're getting too long now.

If you have the room, I would recommend a full size/double. It's nice that you can get into the bed w/ your kids to read etc

My 4.5 yo daughter is in a full size bed and I am getting ready to move my 3.5 yo into a full size also. She is starting to outgrow the toddler bed and the full size is great so that I can sleep with them if we have a bad night.

My daughter went from her crib to a twin bed at 2 since her baby brother was born. Our son moved from his crib to a twin at 2 1/2. I think that at 4.5 a twin bed is best.

at that age I would go with a twin, it will take them through high school, unless he/she is really tall..

When my younger daughter turned 5 a year ago, we bought her a twin bed. My older daughter has been in a queen bed since she was 3. We use it as a guest bed when needed.

Twin or double bed, depending on the size of her room. I really like a twin sized daybed with a trundle underneath. That way, you have a ready made spare bed for guests. You can either set it up as two twin size beds or as a king size bed. Another advantage to the trundle is that if you are afraid she might fall out of bed during the night, you can pull the trundle partially out and have it as a cushion for her to land on.

We have a full size bed. We decided to go with that so that we won't have to buy another bed frame as our child gets older. It's been over a year and so far, so good! Good luck!

My daughter turned 4 in March and we just got her a twin sized bed to replace the toddler bed. She was getting too tall for the toddler bed. I don't think a toddler bed would last you very long.

my 3.5 yr old just switched form his toddler to a twin. He LOVES it! He was so excited and talks about his big boy bed all the time.
