My son has been at an in-home daycare since he was 3 months old and he just turned 1 2 weeks ago. next week he will be starting at a formal daycare and I've been told Ineed to bring a refrigerated lunch. Now to be honest when he was eating babyfood i would take an assortment to the sitter, thoough in the past 2 months or so he's been eating alot of table food. I have NO CLUE what to pack for him. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I ended up packing some diced chicken I had leftover from a BBQ yesterday, with some sweet potatoes, a yogurt cup, and pineapple baby dessert. Along with all that I also sent his sippy cup and a bottle of milk (just in case). Upon our arrival they showed us some of the other luncheons and containers parents use as well. But all in all with your suggestions, I felt very prepared.

How about pasta and sauce - I give my daughter whole wheat pasta and she loves it.
Also maybe diced chicken, turkey, cheese sticks cut up.
And veggies - peas, carrots, green beans..
And fruit - diced apples, pears, peaches, strawberries, banana, watermelon.

As long as the daycare has a microwave which I'm sure they do you can pack him the same thing that you would feed him at home. I a lot of times pack my kids left overs from dinner; pasta, chicken, green beans, sliced fruit, string cheese. I think it's gerber makes the little entrees that you could pack, but if your baby is used to eating table food the gerber isn't seasoned at all and he might not like it.

I wourk in a daycare and we provide a microwave to heat the childs food until they are a year old. After that any hot lunches need to be brought in a thermos or pack a cold lunch. You can keep hot dogs hot in a thermos by boiling them and placing the hot water in the thermos with the hot dog. You can heat macaroni and cheese, beefaroni, spaghetti. Chicken nuggets, pizza, french toast, that sort of thing won't stay hot. For cold lunches you can do sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, cheese, ham, even peas are good cold. jello, pudding, cereal with milk on the side, cold chicken with ketchup packets, lunchables are always good and easy. Hope this helps. P.

Hi G.,
My daughter has been going to daycare for about a year now. I always find it hard because I never know what to pack for her. I usually try to make things differnt every day so somedays I pack a jelly sandwhich, or a cheese sandwhich, nuggets, and smuckers have the grilled cheese that you stick in the microwave for about 1 minute... kids love them and it is easy for the teachers to make. I also always throw in a yogurt and a fruit cup or jello, vanilla pudding... you don't want to start the bad snacks at this age! Hope it helps.. let me know how it goes.
