Daughter Needs a New Peridatrician

I have a three year old who has been suffering with sinus and allergy problems ever since she was born. When living in another state, I had the BEST doctor ever. Unfortunately, since we've been living here in Texas, I can't seem to find one that can help solve this problem or at least give her some type of relief. I tried all types of medications (over the counter and prescribed), an allergy specialist, and way too many antibiotics. She'a always breathing through her nose, her nose drains like a faucet when she's awake and sometimes when she asleep. Because she has to wipe it often it tend to get raw and sore. Every morning, due to her sleeping on her back, the mucus, tends to drain and sit in her throat, which then causes her to throw up sometimes because she doesn't know how to pull it up yet. I have noticed somewhat a difference now in her sleep since we've been using a cool mist humidifier and elevating her pillow at night.

I know part of her problem is that she gets it from her dad side of the family; but there should be at least one Pediatrician that can slve or come close to solving this problem. Presently, she has a good Pedicatric Southwest doctor; but none of the medication/solutions/advice is working. Does anyone know of another pediatrician? He or she does not have to be an allegery specialist; but just someone who has a great reputation and can help? I would like someone close to home; but at this point I drive wherever for my daughter to get some relief.

I have a son that has some of the same problems. I love my pediatric practice. North Dallas Pediatrics. the are on the web at www.northdallasped.com they have offices in Medical City, Plano and Frisco. I also have the most wonderful ENT on the planet. Dr. William Cobb. He is in Plano. I cannot say enough wonderful things about him. When my son gets sick - it awful we have a lot of respiratory problems in the family and he's been wonderful. There is also I think one of the best Pediatric Allergist in Dr. Michael Ruff his is located Central & Walnut Hill.

My son has suffered from horrible sinus issues, ear issues because he makes so much snot. Croup, Viral Triggered Asthma. The works. I was always warned about the humidifier because of the bacteria build-up in the filters, so if you notice she is getting worse you might think about removing that. We use nasal saline 4 times a day and it does wonders. We also do steamy showers (we turn on the shower and sit and read in the bathroom and the steam really helps.)

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

S.,

Hi! I wanted to give you a heads up . . . my 4 year old son just finished a round of antibiotics because he was rubbing his nose area so much with a kleenex, he was raw under his nose (from a virus). Unfortunately, bacteria then got into his blood stream, so he had the strep bacteria coursing through his body! I didn't even know that could happen!

I'm not trying to freak you out, but I wanted to make you aware that this is a real possibility, and it does happen. I hope that you are able to find a doctor who can help you soon. Your daughter deserves the very best!

I can tell you that I adore my pediatrician, Dr. Eric Hopkins, in Grapevine. He has been amazing with both of my boys, but admittedly, not for the allergy symptoms you are describing. I also know that a friend of mine whose son has had allergy-induced asthma has found a wonderful doctor in a Dr. Deborah Fawcett in Southlake.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but maybe one of these doctors will be able to help your daughter conquer this.

Blessings,
L. S.

Until I moved to Fort Worth, I used Dr. Ron Blair. He is at Medical City in Dallas. He has the best staff ever!!! He was the pediatrician for my last 3 since birth. Even the other doctor in his office, Dr. Straughn is great. We lived in GP/Arl and we made the drive to his office whenever needed. He is worth the drive. Very professional and informative.

Since moving to Fort Worth, I use Dr. Kim Mangham with Cook Children's in Keller. She's wonderful as well.

S., My kids are grown now, but when they were younger, we had the best doctor. She is Donna Baker M.D. in Arlington. She was very thorough and easy to talk to. Her office was on Fielder, near Park Row. I believe it was called Arlington Medical Associates. Good Luck!

haqve you ever looked into chiropractic care. i can recommend a good one in irving. it's called magnolia chiropractic, dr. mcdaniel. she is awesome, young, hip and very well educated in alternative medicine. if you have never been to one go and talk to her or any chiropractor that specializes in correct care. they will explain to you how the spine alignment, effects just about everything with our bodies. and the birth process is the first factor that effects the spine....

See if you can get a referral to Dr Apaliski in Arlington. He is an allergist. He is GREAT with kids, and has done wonders for both of my younger kids. I know allergy/sinus issues are no fun for little ones. Also Drs Daniel and Mann for pediatricians in Mansfield are great too.

I don't know where you live but my pediatrician in Arlington is terrific and someone is always available- plus they have late evening and weekend hours. His name is Clive Daniels (817-452-KIDS), his nurse is also really great. My daughter hasn't had allergy problems so I'm not sure how he approaches this.

I had asthma since age 8 and have gone to a great allergy & asthma specialist in Fort Worth ever since. His name is Dr. Robert Rogers (he is very well known for his work and has done alot of work with Dr. Bob Linear- nationally famous for being a great allergist). Once I was a well established patient, most of the time he didn't make me come in- I'd describe symptoms and he'd call in what I needed, saving time and copay fee.

We are using Tamara Hayward and she's great. She is a Pediatrician with Fort Worth Pediatrics-Southwest. Our Pediatrician helped us to a point and then referred us out to an ENT Dr. and to other specialists. Our Son has allergies and asthma and has had 2 sets of ear tubes. We've taken him on our own to our Allergy Dr. (who is awesome!) I would highly recommend him, his name is Dr. R. Tanna and he is located on College Street. He's been awarded the Top Dr. for Fort Worth in Fort Worth Magazine. Our whole family sees him and he sees adults and kids. Our Son takes regular medication for his asthma and allergies. He is very thorough and does numerous tests when he has a new patient and gives you a report on what he finds and even sends a report to your Pediatrician! It would be better to see a specialist if your child is having so many issues with her allergies.

You might want to try elevating her in her bed by a pillow under her mattress or a wedge pillow under her mattress. That's what we do and it really helps a lot. We also use a humidifier in our kids' rooms too. Have you tried an air purifier? I would limit her time outdoors to until you know exactly what the problem is. Hope this helps.

Dr. Benzick at Southlake Family Medical. I would not take my kids anywhere else ever! He talks to them and then to me, he treats the kids like real people and respects them. I could never say enough great things about them, they care and will take any and all problems serious. Thier number is ###-###-####, they also have an on-call doctor when they are not there. By the way since the practice has a side for kids and a side for adults, if you and your husband need a doctor my husband uses Dr. Harder there and I use Dr. Walker, both are great. Harder is an M.D. and Walker is a D.O.

Hi S.

We moved our family here from the great state of Maine. We didn't know what allergies were all about until we got here. My daughter suffered terribly with the same issues. One day while I was at chiropractor, I was reading some material about this problem. I asked and the doctor said bring her in, we've helped lots of little ones with the same problems. So glad I did. No medicines, just a few adjustments and that problem cleared up. It might be worth a try for you.
