My daughter is 12 months. She has been sick 4 times in the last 7 wks. She has had 3 ear infections and now strep. My mother in law says I should put her on vitamins. Is there any vitamins out there for a 12 month old? She is still on formula stage 2 soy and she is still eating stage 3 baby food. Is there enough vitamins in her food? Your input would be apraciated.

What can I do next?

This is a bad time of year for little ones. My first had bronchitis when she was one during this time. Don't worry about the vitamins. Her formula has everything she needs in that category. Ask your pediatrician when you have a follow-up if you want to be sure but I wouldn't worry about what the in-laws say! :)

Hi C., I have 4 children, 5,3,22mo and2mo. I am a rep for Shaklee which is a nutritional company with excellent products. They have a vitamin powder called vita-lea infant mix which I have used with all of my kids when they were infants and they have a chewable version for when they get older. The products are extensively researched and tested and you assured that you are getting what the label says is in the product. They also have some great earth friendly cleaning products free of any caustic chemicals. They are great to use around the house especially if your child is crawling or lying or eating off the floor. Check out their website at Shaklee.net and if you are interested let me know I can give you more information. My e-mail is ____@____.com Sincerely, K. D

Hello C.,

Gerber has vitamins in a liquid/dropper formula (Target has their own brand of this type of vitamin. I used the dropper vitamins on my little guy until he could take the Flinstone gummy vitmins.

Hope this helps.

Your dd is old enough to be eating table food at this point. I think that pediatricians recommend starting them at 9 months. She may do better on regular food as opposed to baby food. It's really easy, just give her a little of what you're eating, just cut it up very small till she gets the hang of chewing. I'm pretty sure that there are vitamins for kids, but I don't know if that's what causing her illness. There are so many things that can cause kids to get sick. I would ask the doc if he/she thinks that your dd needs some type of vitamin. It's always best to consult with the doc before putting your child on any type of supplements anyway. Good Luck! Sick kids are no fun!

My neice is on a liquid vitimin from the ped at 8 months. That could be an option. My doc. had us put my son on a multivitimin at about 12 months. We just got flinstone vitimins and cut them in half as she ordered. I would clear it with your ped first!

I highly recommend Probiotics. They are safe from newborn and up. There is a powder form so that you can put it in her formula. If she has been on antibiotics lately for her ear infections, probiotics are definitely needed. Antibiotics get rid of all bacteria - good and bad. Probiotics replace the good bacteria so that she will be able to fight off infections. Just do an internet search for 'Probiotics' and tons of info will come up. I buy it at Whole Foods in the supplement/vitamin section of the store. They are in the refrigerated section.

I also highly recommend your daughter be adjusted by a chiropractor. My son used to have chronic ear infections.....for 5 months straight. He got adjusted ONE time, and has never had another ear infection. SERIOUSLY!! Seek out a chiropractor who specializes in children. We see Dr. Tricia Arndt in Dublin.

Good luck!

Sounds like your little baby will probaby need tubes in her ears......My son was the same way......got tubes and then has been fine.....gets sick like all the other kids.....it's winter and just that time of year....it stinks....but at least she is building up her immunity for later on in life....that's what I hear anyway as far as when babies get sick a lot early on it helps to build their immune system. I gave him the vitamin droper when he was little........now we've moved on to gummy vitamins.....ask your pediatrician what they recommend and talk to them about tubes......?
Good luck!

Hi C.,
I agree with your mother-in-law. If she was getting all the nutrition she needed, she shouldn't be sick so often. I hear of testimonials every day where children have not been sick one day in their lives and they're now teenagers. Here's where to get the best supplements available. The company is more than 50 years old and does extensive research conducted both inhouse and by third parties. Yes, there are certainly wonderful products for young children. http://www.shaklee.net/changinglives/product/20073

I wonder if your daughter could have an allergy to soy or to something else in her diet? I've had some experience with food allergies with my son who is allergic to dairy. Allergies can manifest themselves in many ways. Maybe try a different formula and see if that helps. If that doesn't help, try eliminating different foods she is eating one at a time and see if anything helps. Good luck.

talk to your doc, but ear infections can have several causes, does anyone smoke around your daughter? is she in daycare where she is exposed to germs? so either of you work around ppl who are sick, very young or elderly where you can be bringing home viruses? I'd look at environmental factors and talk to your doc before giving a baby vitamins most pakages read 2 and up. also if you daughter was a preemie ear infections and illness are common. and the first year in school or daycare where they are around other children is very hard because of all teh new germs they are exposed to so with her age it is probally something she will outgrow. good luck.
