Okay, so when you all go out for date night, do you have a hard time steering away from talk of the kids?

We just had a fabulous date night out & at first found it hard not to not talk about the kids but to have invigorating
conversation as it was the weekend and we had spent most of both days chatting, hanging out, getting stuff done around the
house, doing some activities with the little one that was home etc.

So just curious. It sure was nice to go out and have some fun. Hubby looked handsome. :)

What can I do next?

We have plenty of good conversation, but It inevitably gets back around to the kids. That's about the time we've started missing them and heading home.

I don't have an answer to the question but just wanted to say that I envy you all. Not only do my husband and I not go out - even when we're home we hardly talk (in different rooms, etc). So, even if you are out and can only find conversation about the kids - at least you two have found special time for yourselves.

i dont think its so bad to talk about your kids. i think it's worse to talk about work the whole time. if talking about the kids make you happy i think its good...yes complaining about them is another thing...but i dont see how it should be a rule that you shouldn't.
My daughter is involved in so much in my life that when i'm not with her and something reminds M. of her I have no issue telling a random person "oh thats funny my daughter does that" and so on
we tend to go out and meet up with friends so its always fun conversation

LOL, my hub & I went to dinner sans kids Sunday and laughed when we realized our hot topic of conversation was how we each preferred to sort the laundry! ;D

We never run out of things to talk about and sometimes we do talk about the kids ~ and I am ok with that. In fact, I quite like it :)

ugg, I try talking about the kids that seems the best topic as far as getting a response from him, then i try asking about work, or his charity committees, dead wall there he doesn't want to talk about it. I try talking about my work but his eyes glaze over, I don't do politics but i bring up current events and occasionally one will spark a 3 sentence lecture. Talk about the future doesn't go any farther than a few hours. and maybe i wouldnt mind so much hearing about what im gonna get later, if I felt like i had gotten any attention prior. Nope conversaton is like pulling teeth, and what kills me is if he sees someone at another table or they walk up to us, he'll chat at them till their steak gets cold.
he is handsome though and he always goes home with me, so i guess i'll be happy about that as i eat my fetticini in silence.

On our date nights we make a special point of not discussing the kids. Our kids are older and talk of them can be a mood killer. I also flirt with him whisper sweet nothings in his ear. Play footsie under the table. Rest my hand on his thigh. Tell jokes, Laugh. Plan our future. Laugh some more and just generally enjoy his company in a setting other than home. It is definitely time for another date night.

Glad you had a nice date!

We went out on Saturday and had a wonderful time, too. :)

When we go out, there's no telling what we'll talk about. Sometimes we talk about our boys, but not the whole time. We may talk about work for a bit, too. We both follow politics closely, so that usually comes up. We're also both avid readers, so we will discuss whatever we're reading, and often that branches off into other discussions, as well. We also love to people watch, and we like to imagine what is going on at the tables around us. :)

Hey, good for you for making time for your guy and yourself! Honesty's the best policy - talk about the things you may have been wanting to bring up, but start the conversation by saying: I'd love to get to some practical stuff but let's decide to stop after 20 minutes -- then set the alarm on your phone and you're free! Then tell him how handsome he looks. I always found it took some practice to even think of anything other than the kids, but it's possible!

I dont mind us talking about our son. My husband works all day long, and then has class a few nights a week, so when we do get a chance to talk, I like to fill him in on what our son's been doing lately. Never boring for us, and I dont see it as a bad thing to talk about your kids, and be on the same page.

We just talk about whatever pops into our heads. Sometimes it's so random and it gives us a good laugh.

I so wish that hubby and I could go out to dinner alone, this Momma needs a break!!

Not at all. We went out last night and had awesome conversation. The kiddo was with us, but he colors and plays quietly at the table, so it's like we are alone! We are interested in all kinds of things. The news, religion, art, music, politics, sports, etc. We never lack for conversation! It's one of the things I like most about him!
