Dark Knees, Need Help

I am very insecure about wearing shorts and dresses that show my knees, they are much darker than my skin tone and it's very noticeable. I need some type of cream or chemical peel, but don't where to start. Most cosmetics for dark tones caters more to the face, but I need this for my knees and elbows. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Hi F., I have the same problem and I appreciate you starting this thread as it gets closer to shorts weather. I don't have any solutions to suggest but did want to mention something to you....dark knees can be one symptom of a Thyroid issue. http://thyroid.about.com/library/links/blthyroid.htm There are so many symptoms but I thought it worth mentioning incase it helped you or someone else. Plain old scars will do the same thing and who didn't bang up their knees as a kid? (just like our kids are doing now).

I just picked up a Lightening product to hopefully help with some dark spots on my face. The estetician at the day spa I go to ( Lincoln Day Spa) said she had a client who had a problem with dark kness and she used this Lightening product on her knees twice a day and over time it worked. The brand is Cosmedix. Not sure where else it can be found since I bought it from there, it was a little pricey around $50 but hopefully it works for me.

Have you ever heard of a product called Arbonne? I know that they are having awesome response with evening out skin tones with their RE9 Body system.

Just a thought.

Let me know if you would like info or hear about earning this product for free.

A home remedy I use for my mustache that also seemed to help some acne scars might work for your knees.

make a paste out of baking soda and hydrogenperoxide (these are the active ingredients in a lot of store kits) and just pack it on the areas you want to bleach and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. As it drys add more peroxide (an old toothbrush works well to just sort of dab it on.)

When you're done hop in the shower to rinse it off. It may help if you exfoliate off the dead skin first with a good loofa.

Good luck.

F.,
Most of this stuff is made for he face. I have dark patches on my face from old acne scars. I use Murad age spot and pigment lightening gel. It helps almost overnight.
I have also used it on scars from surgery as well, and it seems to help those also. I also find that the more hydrated my face is, the less the darkness shows.

You could try a skin lightening cream on your knees. You can find them just about anywhere. A lot of cosmetic counters carry them or you can also find them at your local drug store. Good luck :)

Hello F.,

I personally do not have this problem; however, I have used creams and peels for discoloration. In my experience, I am finding that your best bet might be to try a peel. Creams are a pain and lets face it, who has the time to or can remember to apply it as often as it is recommended?

My suggestion is to maybe try an Avon product. They have so many different skin products now that are absolutely awesome. Also, if you are not satisfied, I am pretty sure that you can exchange it or maybe even get a refund. Try Avon.com.

I am currently using a glycolic peel pad I bought from Avon for my rough, calloused feet that is working great. Not only is it getting rid of the rough spots but it is making them actually soft. Maybe a product like this would work on the rougher skin on the knees and elbows. It was cheap too. I think I paid less than $5.00. I hope this helps. Summer is right around the corner.Good luck!
