Hello ladies
I have had dandriff all of my life and I've always had trouble controling it, I've tried just about every shampoo out there.
Does anyone have an remedys that actually work. I do not have dry hair up until a few years ago I had oily hair. I have an itchy scalp that itches so bad that I've got scabs I can feel under my hair from scraching at night. Do those things you drip on your scalp work. ( scalpicin, etc)

Thanks!

What can I do next?

my husband has a very similar problem, and he uses the T-Sol and T-Gel shampoos by Neutrogena, he has found them to help. And when it gets really bad and itchy, he swears by Scalpicin. He went to see a dermatologist, and was told he didnt have a skin problem, just a regular dry scalp SO in case you just need to chnage shampoos too, this stuff seems to help him :/

Oh my goodness, PLEASE don't put listerine on your hair!!! Anything with alcohol is going to dry your hair out big time! Do you have a particular hair dresser that you use? If so, see if she has any recommendations. Maybe you could even get some samples to try out. I have mild dandruff, and I've bought some scalp therapy oil from Melaleuca that I really like. I leave it on for about 10 minutes in the shower, rinse it out, and shampoo like normal. I also really like the Biolage scalp therapy shampoo/conditioner. Walmart has it available in their hair salon for a good price, especially if it's on sale. They also make a conditioning balm that came with my set for free and I LOVED it! Even my hairdresser said "your hair is so healthy and feeling silky smooth!" after I'd used the conditioning treatment.

If regular treatments for dandriff are not helping you, then it mat not be dandriff, but yeast. I get systemic yeast. I cut back on the sugar, increase my yogurt intake & take acidifolous pills. you can find these in health food stores. Ironically I rarely get vaginal yeast infections. A dermatologistr can let you know for certain. That is how i found out. Hope this helps. It sounds disgusting, but if you take monostat cream & rub it on your scalp & it is yeast, then you will get relief.

Try Kera Care dry itchy scalp. It's a shampoo & conditioner that my husband & I both use. You can actually feel it working & it doesn't smell like medicine. It worked wonders for us, I hope it does the same for you.

Hi! It may not be dandruff. I've had a condition on my scalp called Seborreic Dermatitis (sp??). I thought it was dandruff until a dermatologist told me otherwise. If you can make an appointment to see a derm. then they can tell you for sure. They prescribed me a shampoo that worked miracles for my mega itchy scalf and the dry flakes. Hope this info helps!

I would see your doctor about this or a dermatologist. If it is causing you constant discomfort and isn't controlled by over the counter products I would say that is a medical issue. It doesn't seem serious, but a dr might be able to help you be more comfortable.

Are you sure it is not psoriasis or eczema? My husband has the same thing and what makes me think of it as being more then dandruff is the scabs. I did start buying him shampoo by California baby it is for eczema, it does help they also have a cream you can apply at night. If you haven't already I would see a dermatologist, it could be something medical that needs treatment, or something in your diet.

I use Tea Tree Shampoo. Paul Mitchel makes a great one, but health food stores also carry different varieties. The added bonus is that tea tree will also help your hair to grow more quickly!

You might want to consider seeing a Dermatologist. They should be able to pin point exactly what is causing the itchiness and prescribe something for it.

I love my shampoo Evia which I get from Melaleuca. I agree about the Tea Tree ingredient too.

If the type of dandrif that you have is oily (its terrible, I have been there) then use JOY to wash your hair about 3 times a week. That is what my dermatologist told me when I was a teenager, and it worked. BUT...in your case I am a little worried about the scabs, I am wondering if your scalp is just too dry for this method? I am sorry that you are going through this. I am sure that you will find something that will work. Have you considered that this might be an allergic reaction to something that you are eating or using on your hair?

Hi there, B.: I had the same problem and found out it was high blood sugar, so you may want to discuss this possibility with your doctor. A simple blood test will tell the tale. Best of luck to you. M.

Sounds like Seborrheic dermatitis.
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/seborrheic-dermatitis/DS...
Mine seems to be worse in the winter and better in the summer.
I've tried all the medicated shampoos (some work better than others for awhile, but you have to rotate using them). What is working best for me right now is to put a little shampoo in the palm of your hand (the amount you wash you hair with) and dissolve 2 uncoated aspirin in it. Scrub it into wet hair and let it soak for awhile, then rinse it out and condition as normal. Sometimes I rinse with vinegar before my final rinse (my scalp likes it plus it makes my hair very shiny). Hair dyes and perms make my scalp worse.
If you think it might be a yeast problem, soak your scalp/hair periodically in plain yogurt before you wash. Hennaing my hair really makes my scalp feel very good (and I love the auburn color I get from it) but not everyone like to use henna.

I had the same problem when I moved from hot and humid Florida to dry and cold South Carolina. Dryness, open sores, and a maddening itchiness. Please consider Nioxin Scalp Therapy. It's available at most chain salons, like Super Cuts or Great Clips. It was really incredibly helpful. I had tried pretty much everything under the sun to re-hydrate my scalp, but nothing worked. The girl who cut my hair took pity on me and gave me a free sample of the Scalp Therapy. I put it on as soon as I got home and the relief was immediate. Ohhhhhh the relief! I really can't live without the stuff anymore.
