Dallas Zoo :-)

So - I just wanted to put this out there ... we had a great time at the Dallas Zoo yesterday! We were trying to decide between Dallas and Ft. Worth and upon looking at Mamasource - 98% of comments were really negative towards Dallas Zoo. :-/ So, I was super hesitant to take my family. But, b/c we didn't feel like driving to Ft. Worth .. we wanted to try out the Dallas Zoo (we've only lived in Texas for a year) and figured why not.

So ... we all had a great time and the animals were out and active and the little children's area was cute. We packed our own lunch and had a nice picnic at one of the MANY tables provided under shade trees. :-) I'm sure the Ft. Worth zoo is nicer and bigger, but after all the comments about Dallas, I really was nervous to go there - and wanted to let others know it's NOT that bad and I'm glad that we went.

We moved from the Washington DC area, where the free National Zoo is and thought this was similar. So, I'm guessing that the Ft. Worth zoo must just be exceptional and that for those of you who just want to have a fun day at the zoo ... save the travel and head to Dallas! :-D

What can I do next?

I COMPLETELY agree with you. We took our son to the Dallas Zoo and had a wonderful time.
We made a big adventure of it, he's 4 and loves "adventures", by taking DART to the zoo. It was the first time any of us had used DART and we all enjoyed riding the train. It was great for us since we didn't have to deal with traffic and parking and the DART stop is right outside the entrance to the zoo.
Glad there are some of us who do enjoy this great resource in our area!

Dallas Zoo is fine have taken my son before but I still prefer Ft. Worth Zoo. If you ever have the chance to check it out, do so.

I took my daughter last Saturday to the Dallas zoo and I will take her tomorrow again. My daughter loves it and hubby and I too; we paid for the season pass/membership.

I think it is a great place to spend a day with your family. when we go we do the usual walk to see all the "famous" animals, giraffes, elephants, tigers etc. However they have a wonderful bug exhibition, the Nature exchange store, you can now pet and feed the stingrays and the exotic birds. my daughter adores it and I highly recommend it.

I'll check out the Fort Worth zoo so I can compare but I have been very happy with the Dallas one.
Have fun!

Dallas zoo in Dallas, Texas offers you with around 95 acres to explore while you’re there; a good number of animals; and a lot of activities that you can do as a family. There is enough to do at the Dallas Zoo to keep you busy for hours. I am sure that if you visit the zoo once you will be sure to come back again and again.

I saw something about them the other day on the news - it sounds like they have been working on improving it. We went there a little over a year ago and they hardly had any animals. I think they have gotten a bad rap for such a long time that people just quit going there and don't know it's changed. I'm glad to hear you had a positive experience because it's much closer.

Thanks for sharing!

We love the Dallas and the Ft. Worth Zoos! We've been to both numerous times -- Ft. Worth is worth the trek for a special outing...it's an amazing facility. But we enjoy more frequent trips to the Dallas Zoo just as much. The improvements made in the last decade are incredible (my oldest is 10, so we've been regular visitors for quite a while). Our favorite time to go is during the inevitable warm spell right before or after Christmas -- we practically have the place to ourselves (with primo parking), and the animals are always active.

the best time to see the animals in the summer is early in the morning. Most of the animals do not like the heat. They are very still and napping in the afternoon, just like you would be after being outside in the Texas sun!

Also, Dallas Zoo has some great education classes. I take my daughter to Kritter Kids on Saturday once a month. Check it out!
