Dallas Symphony Attire?

Hello ladies,
I have a silly question. My wonderful husband surprised me with Dallas Symphony tickets for Wednesday night. I have never been to the Dallas Symphony and was curious as to what I should wear. Since it is in the middle of the week, can I wear dress slacks and a nice top, or should I wear a dress? As for my husband, is a suit appropriate?
I know this is a random question, but I would appreciate any feedback from others who have attended the symphony. I am just curious as to how dressy we should be.
Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Hi Shonda, how wonderful! Yes, nice slacks and top will be fine for you( you may want to bring a little jacket in case they freeze everyone out). My husband wore dark slacks, a nice shirt and sports jacket and looked very appropriate. We had so much fun! Isn't it great when our hubbys do something so unexpected! Enjoy! Blessings, J.

I would say dressy casual is fine. I find that people dress in all kinds of ways now. I always like to dress up a little to go cause its more fun but a nice pant and dressy blouse would be fine and a sport jaket or just a shirt and tie would be fine for the guy. Have fun, A. J

Shonda,
Hello. My husband and I go to the symphony a few times a year, so here is my advice. If you are sitting in general admission, then dress slacks and nice top/jacket would be very appropriate. If you are sitting in the upper level box seats, then I might recommend something dressier, as in a dressier suit or dress. Your husband can wear a suit or nice dress slacks with a nice shirt. I have seen a little bit of everything there, so it's hard to go too wrong, but if you want to blend in, I would recommend the type of clothing you might wear to a very nice restaurant. Hope that helps, and enjoy your evening!!

My daughter performs at the Meyerson several times a season. Although I do see many different things, I do not find casual appropriate nor a Texas thing (I am third generation). I think dress slacks would be just fine and definitely a coat and tie for your hubby. You can, of course, pull out all the stops and really dress up as I have done a few times. I hope you have a wonderful time as it is a gorgeous venue........you have a wonderful hubby!

Good job Hubby!!

I believe in always staying above the rest, and not settling for less! When we went to the symphony I wore a fitted, tube, long dress w/ a slight train, and my hubby wore a black tie and suit. You will see gowns and the lower end, but a LBD (Little Black Dress) would be right in the middle.

It's an exquisite affair!

The great thing about Texas is that you can get away with a lot as far as dress. I have actually seen people wear jeans to these events. You'll also see people wearing more formal dresses. I would say that if you want to wear dress slacks and a nice top, you will be fine and not feel out of place. However, it's your special night, I would dress up a little and go with the dress. How often do you get a chance to do that! Same with your husband. Mine wears khakis and a dress shirt, but a suit is probably a little more appropriate. Plus it can get cold in there. If he has a suit jacket, it might be a great way for you to keep warm :) Enjoy your night out!!!!

I agree in being more dressy. My elder mom always told me that when in question of how to dress, chose dressy over casual. You will hardly ever be embarrassed in being dressy as you would be being "too comfortable".

I agree with all the other postings, you will see a little of everything. I think a suit is appropriate for hubby and dress slacks and a nice top would do for you...but, go crazy and play dress up! You will really enjoy it!!
