This is a little hard for me to explain but I'll do my best.... My two year daughter has been sick on and off for the past month (mainly a little cough and running nose) also she has a bout of dry-skin-rash on her tummy, legs, butt and around her vagina. she's had this before though I beleive it has somthing to do with our water because it's so hard and my skins has been the same just not as bad,(I don't know if any of that has any thing to do with my question but I deidn't want to leave any thing out) she has been getting better though. Last night when I was changing her diaper I was feeling her tummy and went down and right along side her hip bone (both side)the V area above right before her vigina there are these cyst-like balls-lumps that move around when you touch them, -they don't bother her though- I don't know what they are, I'm so worried! I've read a few things on lymp nodes on the groin and they could be a lot of different things But these are not on her groin -close but above- I felt my own self and I have one cyst like thing and now I'm worried about myself too. Does any one know what I'm talking about? is this common? or? I have a appt on the 4th of feb. but that's 2 wks away! please any adivice will help. Thank you so much!

What can I do next?

If I'm understanding the area properly, I believe they are glands or lymph nodes. Look up "lymph system" on the internet and see if there are lymph glands there. Probably not a problem unless they are really big, but if she's been sick, they may be a bit swollen.

Call the doctor's office and ask them to call you if there is a cancellation. You need to get her in there sooner than two weeks. C. N.

Hi, I'd go to the doctor today. They may be nothing, but better safe then sorry. And they may be gone by Feb. 4th, and then you won't know for sure what they were and whether to watch for them or not. Good luck! Grams

You are going to drive yourself crazy with this,T.. Take her to her doctor. He/she will tell you what it is, if it's normal, etc. And if you're anxious about yourself, go see your doctor DON'T search things online or you will terrify yourself (trust me, I've done it.) Just make an appointment soon, and get yourself some relief. It's worth it.

I have the same thing, but for me I know that they are Lipoma (totally harmless fat desposits under the skin). I have them all over actually. Anyway, it's good to get it checked by a pediatrician, but a general rule of thumb is that if it doesn't cause her pain when you touch them and they move around you likely have nothing to worry about. Especially since you have them too (I get my Lipoma from my father, it's genetic). Still, always good to have the pediatrician take a look!

Hi T.,

I have some ideas, however I think it would be best if over the phone. I have an toll free message only line if your interested in talking. It only goes to me so no worries there. It would sound like to me that both of you are high in acid. High acid in the body can do strange things ie..pushing out of the skin to keep it further away from the organs. Our body if very smart and knows to do this. Anyhow, here is that number, would love to talk and see if I can help you. 888-222-7710.

I'm no doctor, but that sounds like normal lymph nodes to me. Lymph nodes tend to swell as a symptom of allergies, so I'd monitor them and bring it up at your appointment. Since they don't bother her, give yourself a break and (try to) stop worrying. :)

Don't worry, they are probably just lymph nodes doing their job. You and your daughter may have a slight infection and they lymph system is a little clogged. But do keep your appt with the doctor. She/He can determine if there is any reason to investigate further.

Is there a possibility that you and she have thrush?? That could be the rash. Does she have a fever? I would say call the pediatrician, not sure about yours, but they have nurses on duty to ask questions to. I they can tell you if you should come in sooner. If not, I would be safe and take her in to have it checked out, maybe at urgent care or something. Good luck.

I think they're likely lymph nodes too. Sometimes they're are not quite located where they're supposed to be. My little girl even has one by her eyebrow. Whenever she is sick or run-down, her "sicky bump" pops up

I am not a doctor so it's a good thing you're going but I really think that you don't have much to worry about. Lymp nodes are in certain areas but they can move and are not in the exact same place on everyone. So I feel thats its a good chance they are swollen lymp nodes. I as an adult had swollen lymp nodes that where not in the exact location they should have been but my doctor told me everyone is different and they can move around in certain areas depending on where the infection is coming from.
good luck to your daughter

I agree with Cathy A. Whenever you get sick your body, trying to fight the illness, sends all white blood cells and all junk from the illness into your lymph nodes causing them to swell. I know it seems like forever until your appointment, but don't let your imagination get the best of you. (I know, because I am just like that.) Your dr. can tell right away if you have anything to worry about.

I believe I have those two lump things too. It sounds silly, but when I was younger I thought they were my ovaries... I assume they are normal, possibly glands, but would you mind giving me a heads up if your doctor says otherwise? Also, mine are about the size of a tic tac or slightly larger, is that what you've encountered as well? I'm sure it's fine, good luck.
All the Best,

Dear T.,

My first guess would be lymph nodes, especially because you say that she's been sick off and on. I was going to suggest that you call the doctor, but I see that you've done that. Try not to worry too much. Keep an eye on it - but try not to obsess too much - I know that's easier said than done, especially when your child is concerned!

God bless!

I personally would not wait the 2 weeks, but you are her mother and have the all powerful intuition. If you feel it is more serious or are uneasy no one can deny you your feelings. Strongly request a sooner apt.
As most have stated it sounds like her lymph nodes. I was taught to massage them to get the toxins out. You can put a warm compress on it and then massage them gently to start releasing the bad build up. My neck ones would build up and then get infected. I guess I could have prevented it by massage. BUT if you do this it puts the toxins in her system that you must flush out of her body. DRINK LOTS OF WATER to flush it out so it doesn't remain in her.
Another thought. I have a hernia(above belly button) and if it were that, it generally would be tender. Mine is. It doesn't always hurt, but when pressed its tender, or when I'm full or gassy (: it hurts when not even touched.
This may sound bizzare, but what about her ovaries? My frineds daughter at 8 had a rather large cyst removed from hers.
So I hope I didn't give you more questions then answers. I'd just call the doc and strongly request something sooner. Why stress yourself out with the worry.

Those are lymph nodes just like the ones on the sides of your neck, and of course, just like those neck glands they indicate that your daughter is fighting off some kind of infection. But take her to a doctor to be sure.

Have not read all the responses, so this may repeat. Try castor oil ( just a little ) topically. Castor oil stimulates the lymph glands. Look for redness or heat as signs to watch out for ( ie take faster action ) - otherwise try to relax and stay in tune with her general well being, and yours. My friends just turned me on the castor oil to help heal my c/sec scar as it was getting infected. Worked overnight to heal me.
Good luck....

I know everyone is saying wait until your next appointment, but I'd get her in. Although lymph nodes do swell in the event of infection, like a cold or flu, they can also be an indicator of other things going on in your body, like leukemia. Better to be safe than sorry.

I'm not doctor but I had something similar years ago and it turned out I had an infection in my system and those "cyst" like balls turned out to be the infection setteling in the lymph nodes in that area. Very common. However, I would still get in to see a doctor pronto because I required antibiotics. Good luck!

The information you read about is probably right. They are probably just swollen lymph nodes. The lymph system is what filters out all of the waste from the infection fighting process (the illnesses your daughter has been fightig recently), and it is not uncommon to find those with or after illness (other areas that have nodes nearer to the skin where you can easily notice the nodes are under the arms-axilla- and in the neck like under and behind your ears and down around the jaw, etc.).

However, you should probably ask your pediatrician or family practitioner to take a look and make sure there is nothing else going on. So what if you have an appointment in a week or so? If it makes you more comfortable, just call the office and leave a message describing what you see and feel and request that the doctor or nurse call back.

The fact that the bumps are movable and not painful is a good sign, so I would not be as worried.

Keep up the fluids (if you are worried, drink bottled water). If you think it is the water, let the doctor know that also. But just to let you know, everyone around here is having that problem with the dry skin- even mine is worse than usual. Same with the runny nose thing, it's the season for that, so again I would not be worried. Just watch for the green boogies that run all day, along with any other symptoms your doctor might have you look for that tell you it's more than a cold or the weather.

You are a very good and observant mom. Keep up the great work!

Smiles,
C.- a pediatric nurse for WAY too long!

coming from a pediatric nurse, I suggest you ask your pediatrician for an earlier appointment. Definitely sounds like lymph nodes, and they do react to sickness/viruses. But with a rash and enlarged lymph nodes you should get it checked out ASAP. Just to make sure and so you can rest easier. We all may have an opinion, but his is the one that matters the most. Don't wait 2 wks. They should be able to schedule you in for a sick visit.

Swollen lymph nodes actually signal infection in the body and the body fighting it off. If they are swollen, they are overwhelmed and the infection can be severe. I would call the doctor back and see if they can get her in sooner if she is not feeling better. Depending on what type of infection she has, she may need antibiotics now-not 2 weeks from now. If your doctor can't get her in, see an urgent care clinic that your insurance participates with.

Since your daughter has been sick you can bet that those lumps are her lymph nodes. The same can happen in the arm pits and at the sides of her neck. Check with your Dr. next time your there.

I have the same thing as you (one cyst on one side). I went to the doctor to have it checked out and I have been cleared of having any sickness or disease. I just have to keep an eye on it in case it gets bigger. If that happens, I am to go to the doctor's immediately. I would suggest seeing your doctor and your pediatrician. That is the only way to tell for sure nothing is wrong. Good luck to you!

Hi :) I had something similiar and my neice whom is 2 also had the same problem. We were told that it was swollen lympth nodes. When you have an infection, especially if you have back to back infections these glands swell up. Sometimes the glands under your arm pits and the nape of your neck can swell too. I would ahve the Dr. run a CBC blood panel to see if your child has an infection. Good luck :)

Hi, I actually had what your describing and I went to the doctor as well. They to me felt not sore, but just a little bit tender if pushed. Doctor told me they may be swollen lymph nodes and something from a slight infection. He didn't prescribe me anything and I went back two weeks later and they were gone. Around a week before I noticed them, I had a little case of the sniffles, nothing serious. I never as far I know, had that before. I hope yours is nothing serious as well!

I am a 39 year old woman. About 5 years ago I had which sounds like the same thing appear on the right hand side . I noticed that it really appeared when I over exerted myself, or was really active. Of course I would make appt. but by the time the Dr. appt. came it wouldn't be there.I had a few people tell me it was a hernia. I still don't know what it was..... but It hasn't been back in about a year. Anyways, my point is maybe it is a hernia???
