My daughter is 4 and has out grown her bike seat on the back of my bike. Has anyone riden with a four year old with one of those extension bikes where the kids can sit and even pedal if they choose. She is a sturdy kid but just didnt know what age is appropriate for this.

I know you posted this ages ago and I can't tell if you've received responses. The bike extensions are called tag alongs. They rock. Both of my boys loved them. My yougest started at 4. They are liberating and tons of fun b/c all of a sudden you can really go for a ride and they enjoy themselves too. It's actually a very secure feeling and not too hard to balance.

We have used one with both our sons, now 11 and 7, and it really works well. I would say that we are more comfortable with it on bike paths or the Croton Acqueduct than on the road...but that's true of me as well!

The other potential downfall is that they like it so much they are less motivated to use their own bike, so my 7 year old is only just getting comfortable with his two wheeler!

R., The advice I received when my daughter was too big for the seat was to wait until she could ride a bike with no training wheels before trying the "tag-along". Even though they aren't really powering the bike, they do need to maintain a sense of good balance. Even when we started using the tag-along, it took a bit for both of us to get the hang of it--especially making turns. Good luck!

Those are called tag a longs and I think my son was abt 4 when we started using ours and it was great - highly recommend it . We used it until he was abt 7 and out grew it. The only thing that would happen on occasion was that the motion would lull him off to sleep and one time we missed it and he fell.

I took my 4year old on one...it was so fun! If she's sturdy and you don't race, I think it's fun! Go for it1
