Cuties.. Why, Why Did I Give In...

So my kids have been begging me for cuties, the easy to peel seedless mandarin oranges. I've never bought them before, because their tiny, and 5 dollars for a bag, when I can get a bag of big oranges for cheaper..
So, I gave in...
When I got home, they each had 1.. Ok NP right..
Then I found out their dad gave them another.. Ok..
So I get out of the shower, hubby is asleep, kids were "supposed" to be asleep.. Were they?? No.. They were eating cuties.. So I locked the gate we have in the hallway, and my oldest begged for an hour. "please mama, your baby really loves cuties" " theyll make me big and healthy," " don't make your little ballerina sad"
OMG.. She finally gave up, but they've never begged for "healthy" snacks like this before. They love fruits and veggies, but they've never just begged before...
Are they that good? Probably not, just something new..
Anybody else had to hide the cuties?? Lol
Or something similar?

What can I do next?

We eat them like crazy when available. I think they taste better more consistently than oranges do. That, combined with ease of peeling, it makes it so worth it for me. I hardly ever get oranges but we have cuties in the fridge until they are no longer available.

Enjoy them while you can. D.

they are expensive, but they are HEALTHY. And my guess would be that they are still cheaper than the junk foods that we usually call snacks, per ounce. And yes, the big bag of oranges is cheaper, but if no one eats them and you have to throw them away did you really save any money?

And yes, they really are that good--the difference for me is that they don't have seeds, they are easy to peel and they don't have nearly as much of the tough membranes that oranges have. And usually they are much sweeter.

I would say give them a limit of 2-3 a day and keep buying them.

Not trying to be a smart aleck, but they're just mandarin oranges, also called tangerines or clementines. Nothing new, just smart advertising. Aren't they available in the fruit section most of the year? If you buy them from the bins and not the name brand boxes they're much cheaper. And yes, lots of vitamin c and fiber. They definitely are a good, healthy snack.

That is a funny story! Everyone is our house loves them. Get them while they are in season - it doesn't last long. My son eats 4-5 at a time and has never gotten diarrhea. He doesn't have cavities, isn't overweight, etc. There's a lot worse things to snack on than fruit.

Why don't you try one and see for yourself? We buy them when they are in season (1 box per week). We all like them. I much prefer my kids eating them to grabbing a cookie or even goldfish.

I always have those in the house when they are in season. Super easy snack, my baby even sucks them on a mesh feeder. As long as it's fruits or veggies I let my kids have at 'em. Mine eventually gey tired of them.

I would talk to dad about limits and then both of you stick with it. They are small and therefore less of a serving that a larger orange would be. Still, 1/2 cup fruit is a serving for older kids while 1/4 cup is a serving for a toddler or smaller child.

I don't know, I myself love cuties and I'm a grown woman! I eat those suckers up until there's nothing left. My daughter won't eat them (sensory issues with the pulp) but she loves sucking the juice out of them. They are some of the sweetest fruits out there, and they're better for you than candy. Once in a while you can get a bad batch; I hate when that happens, because then I've wasted a lot of money on so-so cuties. I also don't like it when they say they're seedless and once in a while you still get a seed. But yes, I do have to confess that I LOVE cuties!

I think it's a combination of the name, the commercials, and how easy they are to peel.

The 1st bag went in 48 hrs between my 2. I did try to hide them. I was worried they would get citrus sores on thier tongue. They never did. The 2nd bag they had sort of gotten over it and they didnt have to be hidden, but the kids still loved them.

I have purchased these for my grandson, when I have a coupon ( keep an eye out they come out really regularly in our Sunday paper) and he does lovet hem. But he is a fruit and veggie lover and these are "kid sized" and different...so of course they are going to be favorites.
I usually have to be careful about setting too much fruit of any kind out for him to snack on because he just keeps on eating until the bowl is empty!! Good thing for kids to be stuck on..I would say!!

All fruit has a lot of natural sugar. I limit my 2 year old to 1 per day (although dad sometimes gives in and gives him another if I'm not home), but any more than 2, and you've got a load of diarrhea on your hands!

That's great they want healthy snacks though! We always have clementines in the house. Sometimes I switch it up and get pears, grapes, bananas, apples, whatever... but clementines are a staple!

It's good they are munching on something healthy and each one is not very big. They are often on sale and I've had coupons for them. They are pretty good and the season doesn't last long so enjoy them while you can. The only thing that frustrates me is every now and then I get a bag of dry ones. Ugh! When my older son was about 7 or 8 he once ate 7 Cuties in one meal. We still talk about it. (And no, he didn't get sick.)

This is why Cuties launched a $20 million national television and print advertising campaign, aimed at mothers, lol!

Alas, we won't have them in our house, both kids are highly sensitive to citrus fruits and get diarrhea from the smallest amounts, and they're too costly to warrant buying them just for us grownups who would eat boxes full.
