Cute Kid

Has anyone ever submitted photos to "Cute Kid" or any other baby photo contest? If so, I'd love some feedback. My son is always turning heads for being so cute and I'd love to enter his photos in some contests and see where it leads but I'm not sure if it is a good idea to post his photos on the internet, etc.

What can I do next?

I did a few months ago. I submitted two photos of my son, but he didn't win. Nothing negative has come about by it. It does cost $20 to submit each photo though!! I was so confident he'd win that I didn't mind paying the money at the time. Not that I think he is the cutest kid around, but the two photo's I submitted just happened to be really good shots. Now that I look back on it though, I will never pay to enter a contest again.

S.,
In 1999 I submitted my son's photo into a contest. They sent something back saying we were entered into the contest, but they wanted money. Then.. if it went to a certain stage, they would want his pictures done by a professional..more $$$... so we decided not to follow through. I think it is ok if you are doing it through a known magazine. But.. I too would be cautious of internet contests! It's great that you see the beauty in your son. We tried it again, in 2001 with another company for my 2nd son... and again.. it was the same thing, more money and more criteria. Make sure to read any fine print!! It all sounds good until you read the fine print. Good Luck, and if you find any that do not cost money and are legitimate, I would love to know of them!

The site photowow.com has a contest. The winner receives one of those pop pictures.

My thoughts, FWIW, is that you should not submit anything personal that will be accessible by everyone on the Internet. I would try to stick to contests run by companies like Gerber or someone like that. There are too many people these days who use pictures off the Internet for scams, all of the "I'm stranded in West Africa, I love you, send me money" come to mind. I could imagine someone using a baby's picture for a "send money for therapy for this child" scam. Not that you would be responsible, but you might not want your child's picture used in the manner. And there are a lot of predators out there, and the schemes get more complex every day. But, I'm an older mother, I'm 57 with a grown son, so maybe I'm just being cautious. But, do bask in the glow of pride when anyone tells you your son is cute. When he gets into the carrying worms and frogs stage you will have good memories of these days, lol.
