we've been using it since my daughter was born, almost 5 years ago. we love it and it's so easy, as long as you remember to do it. i'll order something on line and forget to go thru upromise sometimes.
well, good luck and go for it, you have nothing to lose!

I joined UPROMISE almost as soon as my son was born and I don't regret it. I also have a 529 account and have them linked so that any money that I receive from UPROMISE directly gets deposited into my son's 529 account. I try not to use my credit cards a lot (trying to get my finances in order), but when I do, it's worth it. Hope I helped. Have a good day.

Personally I love it. I registered all of my supermartket cards, as well as my credit cards, and debit card. You get a percentage from buyuing gas, you can shop online, and you can invite family and friends to save money for the kids education also.

We joined, and if you just link your store cards, etc., it does add up slowly. But, I figured something was better than nothing. If you shop online a lot, that adds up, too. Be sure to take advantage of the family and friends option, as well.

However, recently we signed up for a Future Trust credit card and linked that to a college savings acct. My husband runs his own business and charges all his business stuff to that card. That adds up REALLY fast!

I have been a member now for close to 6 years. It works well, althouh you are limited to 10 credit cards and their investment funds are not the best, so my financial advisor said to let mine accumulate and once the funds expand will invest in those.

I have signed up for U Promise - I haven't really done much with besides signing my different stores cards up to get the cents when I purchase the products that have the U symbol - my mom also signed up her cards - I also have a credit card or two signed up because you gain more cents when you purchase gas and other items at certain stores - You can really save up a lot of money if you shop through a lot of the websites through their website - I have a little but I know someone that has a few hundred - I figure a little is better then zero -

Hi there, I have done U promise for years. Its very simple and you get money for things you would have bought anyways! I even opened a educational 529 account that the upromise automatically funnels money to for my youngest. The hardest thing is to remember when I buy something online is to go through the upromise website first to get the credit. Otherwise my store discount cards are on my account and my credit and bank cards too. So when I go to the store those cards are automatically counted.
So far its only a couple of hundred but every bit helps and like I said originally, Its stuff I would have bought anyways.
I have never had a problem with security.
Hope that helps.

Just get it. No harm can come of it. You pay nothing. I would definitely give it a try.

I read all of the responses and find it interesting that everyone reports a good experience with this. I tried about 3 years ago to sign up for this, but since we don't use credit cards (I don't believe in them), it would not let us sign up unless we applied for their credit card. I immediately thought this was fishy, so I just decided to forget about it. If you are using a credit card to make purchases, are you really saving money? There are statistics that show that people spend more money when they use credit cards vs. cash, so I think in the long run that you would be better off to just use cash for your purchases and set aside a bit each month into a college savings plan. That's just my personal opinion.

I signed up. It takes forever for your points, or money, whatever you want to call it to be loaded after you shop (1-2 months), but the pennies will add up!
The site is extemely easy to use, and set up, and we plan to attach it to our 529 (we haven't yet). If you have any specific questions let me know.

I LOVE UPromise. I had BabyMint and they are terrible. What little I had in my account was gone because they fee you for not using the account regularly. UPromise does not and because I registered our cards, I will see a little bit come over from gas fill ups, the grocery store, etc. I even got some back from our bill for banking our last son's cord blood!

I have been a member for a while now. I find it to be an easy way to get a little extra money for college. Over the time I have been a member I have saved about $900. You can be as aggressive about it or as low key as you want. I mostly make sure that I go through the Upromise website to do any online shopping. There are a lot of companies that work with Upromise - LLBean, Lands End, etc. The dollars here and there add up, and then they are automatically transferred to our 529 plan.

Hi M.,
I joined UPromise a few years ago, before I even had a baby. I'm impressed that someone was able to save $500 from it. I probably have about $75. I never had high expectations for making a lot of money, but I liked the fact that it was free money. Plus, once you register your credit cards and your store cards (CVS, Stop & Shop, etc) you don't have to do anymore work. It's also a good idea to go to the UPromise website anytime that you plan on doing some online shopping. Many online vendors will give back a small percentage. It is definitely worth it, even if you only get enough $$ to buy a couple college textbooks for your kids! Best of luck to you!

PS - I would love to hear about your photography studio. I love photography, too - but I don't think I'm good enough to turn it into a career. Would love to hear any advice from you!

My advice, Join. You have to set up a 529 for college savings so that the money transfers over. We have never had any problems with the account, and we have had it five years, and they have transferred over $2000 into our account, without any special buying effort of ours.

Hi-

I've had U Promise for Years. You h ave to sign up all your credit cards and debit cards and it would be productive to get others to sign up also. It's a great program. It's free money so who can turn that down. It doesn't equate to much if you don't spend much but again, it's free so who cares.

A little about me:

I own my own business and am a personal business coach providing Free Mentoring to individuals with stay at home businesses, teaching the skills needed for success. I'm available to anyone who is interested.

I am newly married (Sept. '07) but we've been together for 5 years. I have 3 children, 1 is special needs. He's the best little boy! Christopher is 7. My other 2 are 13 (girl) and 20 (boy)

I joined U Promise a little while ago and linked my grocery store cards. I did not link my credit cards. However, if you use them as a portal when shopping online you will get credit for the transaction and they will also send you lists of specials. You can explore the website a bit before you sign up and see if you like it.

It's awesome! I have over $500.00 in my account which I have automatically transferred and equally alotted to each of my children into a 529 fund. That is "free" money. You'd be silly not to enroll!

Hi M.,

I've been a member of UPROMISE since it started. I think it's great that you can save this way even if it's a little bit at a time. I'm noticing more and more business' are jumping on board so the options are much greater. The nice thing is you can send invites to relatives and they can also help you save. UPROMISE also has a tool bar that you can download which makes remembering to use it while your shopping online easier. I used to forget all the time! I think it's a great idea - go for it!

I signed up for U promise a few years ago (my daughter is turning 16 this week). It's free, and it's easy. The money adds up VERY slowly, but so what, it's free. I try to stick to the brands that offer the $ as well. Typically you are only getting pennies per purchase - $.02 - $.04 - is usual. That's why I say it adds up slowly. But, you are smart to start very young. We just changed our credit card to a U promise account, so we're quickly adding money to her account. You can also have grandma sign up to add money to the kids accounts .... Hey, if it pays for books, I'm okay with that! Do it... Deb

U PROMISE that you link to a 529 Savings Plan?
I have done this and some money has been forwarded to my son's 529 Savings Account. It does not cost anything, so why not give it a shot.

My husband and I joined when I found out I wa pregnant with my dtr (who will be 3). It costs you NOTHING to join. You register your credit cards, debit cards, and all of your food store savings cards. You shop as normal and if you have the cards registered, when you purhcase items that are "upromise", you get the points.
You can even have family sign up to help you save. We also put in a certain amount each month to the account.
Also, when you shop on-line, you go through Upromise and they sometimes offer savings. There are a lot of on-line shops that you can earn money also.
My husband and I love it! It's an easy way to save money for your child!
Good luck!

I have to agree with everyone, it's great. I have been a member for about 7 years. You don't have to use their 529 plans, you can just request your money from your u promise account and they will mail you a check. I've done that twice with absolutely no problems. Make sure and check the website for vendors when you are purchasing big items as well. I was able to get money when we purchased a car and appliances also. You can also sign up a PTO/PTA if you have children in school. Right now I'm donating 1% to my daughters school, so it's helping my daughter now and later! =0)
