Hi! I am planning on finding a CSA to join for the spring. I live near Roseville/Falcon Heights in Lauderdale, and am really interested hearing from anyone who currently gets a box of vegi's from a CSA. What kind of things do you get? How many meals can you get from a weekly box? How much does it cost? What farm do you use?

We have a small garden, and love the farmers market, but I would like to buy into a local organic farm's program to really try to support our economy and expand our vegetable consumption beyond broccoli and green beans in the summer months.

Thanks!
J.

J.,
There are tons of CSA farms who deliver all over the Cities. Here is a link for a long list of them from the Land Stewardship Project http://www.landstewardshipproject.org/csa.html
I used to go to a CSA Fair on Hamline's campus in the spring, but I don't know when that happens. Sometimes local coops or other places will host a fair in the spring also so you can come check out a number of farms. The site on the LSP website is good, but make sure you keep scrolling down as there's a ton of info after the directory part.

My mom & I split a box from the May Farm in Marine-on-St. Croix last year. She was feeding 3 people & I fed 4. I LOVED hearing my boys (5 & 3) screaming, "Yeah, we got zuchinni!!" or whatever other great food item arrived that week. Check them out at www.mnfoodassociation.org/joinmayfarm.htm

I haven't had a CSA in a while, but the Women's Environmental Institute runs one that is organic. You can check them out on their website www.w-e-i.org There are also a number of other good ones out there but they aren't all organic. The Co-op I go to (Seward in south Mpls) has a CSA fair in the spring (march?) so you can talk to them and choose. You might check with your local co-op to see if they do as well.

Hi,

We live in Roseville, just across the street from Falcon Heights. We have a milk/bread/egg/meat summer berry and veggie delivery from Simple Provisions http://www.simpleprovisions.com.

I have friends who use Easy Bean http://www.easybean.com and other friends who go through http://www.communityhomestead.org/

Our milk is organic and is less expensive than Target's organic milk! It tastes incredible. The berries we got last summer were beautiful - with the sweetest raspberries I believe I'd ever tasted.

Good Luck.

We have gotten CSA shares from fox tail farms for 3 years. We've used other CSA's in the past, and by far this has the biggest box for the best price. We absolutely love it.

The deliver to many places all over the cities. Anyway - I'm sure whatever you choose, you can't go wrong! Enjoy!

I have tried Sylvan Hills farm in Menomonie, call ###-###-####. It was plenty of food to last a week for our family of 2 adults and 2 small children, eating veggies at lunch and dinner. We got things such as greens, onions, garlic, squash, eggplant, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, and more that I can't even recall. I thought it worked well and will be doing it again this year.
